Monica Lennon warks* the truth about cancer death in a time of coronavirus

The Scottish Labour branch’s Health rep is headlined in the Herald with a typically desperate attempt to exploit an unavoidable consequence of the outbreak with irresponsible and ill-informed claims which, irresponsibly , can only scare the very patients she pretends to care about. Cancer death tsunami? Astonishingly she claims this: More people die from cancer than from Covid-19? Well duh, yes, because the SNP (as she likes to always put it) lock-down strategy has pushed the Covid-19 death rate down to zero for more than a month now, ever widening the gap with Labour Wales and Tory England. Crisis in … Continue reading Monica Lennon warks* the truth about cancer death in a time of coronavirus

Hate Crime Law: The use and abuse of survey results

By stewartb What an appalling report: I’ve now read it through twice and remain confused – even finding the questions asked is a challenge!! To help understand the claimed conclusion in the newspaper about 69% opposing (something!) I searched the text specifically for every occurrence of ‘69%’ – I am none the wiser. Two others things strike me. Firstly, there seems to be use of ‘straw man’ propositions throughout. Their inclusion may confuse and/or ‘condition’ and therefore slant responses. Secondly, (and candidly, this is as best as I can disentangle from this report – but I may well have been … Continue reading Hate Crime Law: The use and abuse of survey results

Updated: Coronavirus Scotland: Expert says return to schools has been ‘overwhelmingly positive’

Update: ‘is‘ replaced by a ‘has been‘. I hope Murdo Fraser and Brian Wilson didn’t see this. There’s only so much they can take from Professor Sridhar’s positive outlook on developments in Covid-19 Scotland. On Channel 4 News again tonight, Professor Sridhar was asked how things are in Scottish schools after one week back and said: The first thing to say is that its overwhelmingly positive. Everyone is really happy that kids are back and it felt like the right moment to return in August. At the same, time, I mean, it has been bumpy, cases have emerged. You can … Continue reading Updated: Coronavirus Scotland: Expert says return to schools has been ‘overwhelmingly positive’

Does a majority of Scots both oppose and support new hate crime laws at the same time?

Under a strangely cropped shot of the Justice Minister, the Scotsman tells us that: When you look a the data, put together by ComRes for Free to Disagree, after a lot of questions not specifically about the bill you find this big one: Q3_1. For a criminal offence to be committed, there must be a proven intention to stir up hatred: The Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Bill was introduced to the Scottish Parliament in April 2020. It includes new offences criminalising ‘stirring up hatred’ against people on the basis of age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity or … Continue reading Does a majority of Scots both oppose and support new hate crime laws at the same time?

Scotsman writer’s fake news on the SNP

McColm opens with unsubstantiated claims of the SNP telling the electorate that a vote for them was a ‘vote for something better, for a more decent, honourable politics.‘ Two things. First, I don’t remember anything like that and he gives us no quotes with dates. Second, does he really believe that the electorate in Scotland is so gullable as to have believed that if it had been said? Then he tries to tell us that SNP MSP’s don’t like it if you point out that ‘truth’ to them. Oooh tough guy! I suppose if you don’t have any evidence, they … Continue reading Scotsman writer’s fake news on the SNP

New STUC boss joins Salmond pile-on on behalf of Labour

In the Herald today: SCOTLAND’S top trade union boss has opened up about her experience of sexual harassment in the workplace as she raised concerns over the damaging fallout of the Alex Salmond case. Rozanne Foyer, the first female general secretary of the Scottish Trades Unions Congress (STUC), said the reaction to the former first minister’s trial “speaks volumes about where we are, culturally, with regards to women’s rights”. Let me be absolutely clear. Sexual harassment in the workplace should be condemned. I’ve witnessed predatory behaviour by a few powerful males and one or two powerful females in Higher Education. … Continue reading New STUC boss joins Salmond pile-on on behalf of Labour

Has BBC Scotland recognised Scottish success in infection tracing?

Don’t be daft. Of course they haven’t. I made that up. Pretty good eh? You can’t even see the joins. Who ya gonna call? Scotland’s excellent infection outbreak busters!

With 99.7% of contacts made in community outbreaks in Scotland, Public Health Scotland‘s teams have contacted 98.14% of all tourists who should have isolated after visiting high risk countries. With only 4 cases in Aberdeen and only 1 in the surrounding county on Friday, the pub crawl spike by immature males is under control. With only 6 in Glasgow an other 6 in nearby Coatbridge, the teenage house party (an ’empty?’) spike will be soon closed down. Remember the Dumfries and Motherwell spikes? Shut down in days. The Coupar Angus outbreak, big but simple, is next. The teams (above) are all … Continue reading Who ya gonna call? Scotland’s excellent infection outbreak busters!

The Alex Salmond Trial: The Herald’s cluster of contempt for the law

In an oh-so-cheap attempt to win readers, the Herald has 4 reports on the case of a man found innocent in a Scottish court, the story already warped by Warkism, for which he may sue. I feel sure the arch-paedophile and Liberal MP, Cyril Smith, suffered less media-abuse. As for those monsters Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris, did the Herald manage 4 different stories in one day on them? I doubt it. McKay’s piece opens with a fine piece of in-the-media-bubble hypocrisy: THe retrial of Alex Salmond is gathering pace. The Kirsty Wark documentary for BBC was, let’s say opportunistically, … Continue reading The Alex Salmond Trial: The Herald’s cluster of contempt for the law

Covid-19 under control in Scotland

BBC Scotland had the above and The Sun splashed this headline: SPREADING  Coronavirus Scotland: Huge spike in Scots coronavirus cases with 123 more overnight – including 78 in area of cluster At first, you might think Scotland has reason to worry in the way they undoubtedly do in Spain, many other parts of Europe and in several English cities, where there is a significant surge in community infection. That’s the key point. The surge in cases in Scotland is a predictable consequence of the outbreak in a single food factory – 2 Sisters in Coupar Angus. It is not a … Continue reading Covid-19 under control in Scotland
