Scotland’s booster rollout third best in World
Only Iceland and Israel have a slightly better booster rollout than Scotland. The Scottish Conservatives have urged the Scottish Government to pull out all the stops to beat the English programme. NHS England’s rollout appears to be failing as NHS Scotland power ahead: No vaccine figures for today, in England are being released. Six days ago, Johnson claimed: The mission to administer millions of jabs by December 31 will see 42 military planning teams deployed across every health region, extra vaccine sites and mobile units, extended clinic opening hours to allow people to be jabbed around the clock and at … Continue reading Scotland’s booster rollout third best in World
Charity begins at the bar
Two days ago hospitality bosses were top of BBC Scotland’s agenda. You might remember that BBC UK, England, Wales, NI, RTE and most of northern Europe had better things to inform on. https://talkingupscotlandtwo.com/2021/12/16/hospitality-or-hospitals-how-only-scotlands-hospitality-industry-is-being-used-to-undermine-public-health/ Today, we’re back on the campaign to get some of that support into the pockets of folk not known for paying their taxes or offering their staff decent pay and conditions, some of whom are know for taking the tips from staff and some of whom are Tory donors. BBC Wales have got two wee stories about gym and club owners ‘fearing’ losses but no call for … Continue reading Charity begins at the bar
English King has a woman’s legs
Warning: Dangerously daft post: A new discovery has triggered fury among members of the English Defence League and elements in the Conservative party, as researchers reveal that a statue of England’s scholar-warrior who sorted out the Vikings, promoted literacy in his subjects, and paved the way for a united England, in London, re-uses the 2nd Century AD Roman legs of the goddess Minerva. https://londonist.com/london/history/southwark-s-statue-of-alfred-the-great There have been calls from Boris Johnson for the legs to replaced with a new set modelled on his own chunkier ones. Anxiety about womanly legs runs deep in English history as this 16th Century video … Continue reading English King has a woman’s legs
First Minister spells it out for Daily Mail reporter, aged 12?
May thanks to reader Bob Lamont for capturing this sharp and informative, only slightly exasperated, response to a question of unsurpassed thickness, even from the Daily Mail. The FM, like a skilled primary teacher gets right down to his level and, frankly, ‘tears him a new one. It’s really worth showing to any floating voters you know to counter BBC Scotland’s misleading tendency to ignore borrowing powers and imply once more that Westminster would be helping us out. Continue reading First Minister spells it out for Daily Mail reporter, aged 12?
Should pub chiefs have paid tax before to get support now?
Judging by the opinion polls suggesting 90% support for her pandemic measures, this tactic to undermine her and provide benefits to employers is going nowhere. Perhaps ‘pub chiefs’ and others in hospitality are unlikely to attract sympathy from us PAYE tax payers because of this kind of thing? Five minutes browsing gets you the above. Tip, iceberg? I know what’s endemic. Continue reading Should pub chiefs have paid tax before to get support now?
Covid Update: Half the infection rate, fewer deaths and more jags – we have a right to know!
BBC Scotland, above, telling you none of what follows. Do take care in case you are radicalised by facts. As always, England has 10 times the population. Scotland had 4 336 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours. All things being equal – leadership, mask compliance – England should haver had around 43 000 but had 83 693, nearly twice as many. Scotland had 7 deaths so, again, England might have expected 70 but had 90, 40% more. What about booster jags though? Sandy Gullane MD MSP was on BBC Scotland and said the SNP did something wrong. I … Continue reading Covid Update: Half the infection rate, fewer deaths and more jags – we have a right to know!
Paying for BBC Scotland’s ignorance is unconscionable
First Graham Stewart calls it the ‘Omicrom‘ variant, then Andrew Kerr tells us that the FM had said the UK Government was ‘unconsciable.’ The whoever or whatever does the text underneath got the virus name, Omicron, correct and heroically knew it should be ‘unconscionable‘. The FM was word-perfect. You may say this is trivial but for the price of the licence I will accept no errors whatsoever! Continue reading Paying for BBC Scotland’s ignorance is unconscionable
Gangrene outbreak in Glasgow care home owned by billionaire banker and Tory donor
Today from BBC Scotland: A care home is under investigation amid claims serious failures led to elderly people being hospitalised. Some residents at Golfhill Nursing Home, Glasgow, required hospital treatment for gangrene, according to a report in The Herald. The Care Inspectorate said concerns about the home were raised after an October inspection and there has been “insufficient improvement” since then. Operator Advinia confirmed a “large scale investigation” is under way. The problems are reported to centre on the intermediate care unit, where elderly residents are transferred after being discharged from hospital. They normally spend about a month there before being … Continue reading Gangrene outbreak in Glasgow care home owned by billionaire banker and Tory donor
SNP Government’s pandemic measures much more successful that Con Government in England
Scotland’s booster rollout is around 5% faster than England’s, at the same time as our infection rates remain around 20% lower and as our hospital admission rates fall to the lowest level since August, unlike those in England. The above, often confused with a beach in East Lothian and inevitably Scotland’s worst GP, reeks of Sunak-like ambition to lead the Scottish Cons. He’s ideally suited. A serial and outrageous liar. ‘Mass’ vaccinations centres in Tory England and Labour Wales are due to re-open tomorrow, Saturday 18th December. The essential point is not the use of the label ‘mass’ but rather … Continue reading SNP Government’s pandemic measures much more successful that Con Government in England
SNP Council goes even further on child poverty measures
I’ve posted several times here on the Scottish Government’s attempts to compensate for Tory austerity policies. It’s some time now since they took steps to compensate for the ‘bedroom tax.’ This year, the Child Benefit payment was described by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation as likely to make a major impact on child poverty, already lower in Scotland. This is now to be doubled. In September, the Scottish Government boosted the Family Pandemic Payment and today SNP-led East Ayrshire has announced a further boost to the already existing Family Pandemic Payment: Christmas in East Ayrshire should be a little cheerier for … Continue reading SNP Council goes even further on child poverty measures
