What we’re dealing with

Scotland on Sunday, today, is full of articles and letters by Scotland in Union’s anti-democratic covert letter-writing team and their mainstream pals like Ian Murray. Allan Sutherland, one of their most prolific members, is there today. Rebut? I can’t be bothered. How many will read his letter? Here are some of his greatest hits: https://talkingupscotlandtwo.com/2020/10/04/bbc-rt-herald-and-scotsman-to-share-scotland-in-union-correspondent/ Gill Stevenson, another regular, has been everywhere in the last few days. I did rebut but I’m getting tired: https://talkingupscotlandtwo.com/2020/11/13/nazi-expert-and-siu-member-calls-snp-control-freaks/ Prof Pennington, a BBC Scotland (only) regular too, is another of the more prolific ones. See this nasty wee piece: https://talkingupscotlandtwo.com/2020/11/10/the-measure-of-the-man/ Nastiness is their calling … Continue reading What we’re dealing with

This really is a ‘scare story’

The infection rate is clearly higher in Glasgow and Lanarkshire than in other parts of Scotland and so, it seems, the demand for ICU beds is likely also to be higher. Across the country the demand for ICU beds is relatively static and, critically, well below capacity. At the end of October, demand was less than half of the baseline capacity for ICU beds and around one tenth of surge capacity: Since that graph was produced, on the 20th October, the number in ICU increased from 70 to a maximum of 111 on the 8th November and has since fallen … Continue reading This really is a ‘scare story’

Dog Whistling with waste from the Myriad

That’s a picture which the Herald should have credited to AFP Getty images, of waste containers in Malaysia from an unattributed country of origin. It’s not even plastic waste. The Herald report is just about the export of plastic waste. It’s almost certainly not Scottish waste but none of that matters because, the Corporate Glasgow Herald doesn’t really care that much about pollution. They’ve headlined the story because they know it’ll attract lots of eager wee creatures to feed on it, to attack Nicola Sturgeon, the SNP and the Scottish Government and it’s clickbait for advertising revenue. Within minutes they … Continue reading Dog Whistling with waste from the Myriad

Updated: UK civil service numbers – insights for an independent Scotland

Apologies from the Editor: I cut off half the post! By stewartb The Institute for Government (IfG) has just published a review of the Westminster government’s proposals to move civil service jobs out of London.  Within the IfG report there are a number of pieces of information that are worthwhile highlighting from a Scotland perspective. Source: https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/sites/default/files/publications/moving-out-civil-service-location.pdf As background, the IfG explains: “In its March 2020 budget, the UK government committed to moving 22,000 civil service jobs out of London by the end of the decade. It will do this by moving central government jobs to other cities and towns, … Continue reading Updated: UK civil service numbers – insights for an independent Scotland

Average lead for Yes is 6.9%. The people are not fooled

14 polls since the beginning of June, under fire from shrill MSM and opposition attacks on ‘SNP Civil Wars‘, ‘SNP Cover-ups’ and ‘SNP care home deaths‘ and the average lead is 6.9%. In the last 7, the average lead is 7.7%. It would be interesting if one of the pollsters was to ask a question like: Is BBC Scotland reporting making you more or less likely to vote in favour of independence for Scotland? Continue reading Average lead for Yes is 6.9%. The people are not fooled

Tourists returning from Spain ‘more likely to have caused second wave’

The Herald’s Health Correspondent writes today: Test and Protect took more than 72 hours to trace the contacts for more than 8,600 cases between August and October, increasing the risk of the virus spreading. Scientists from the SAGE advisory group warned in May that “any delay beyond 48-72 hours total before isolation of contacts results in a significant impact on R” – the reproductive rate of the virus. Those 8 600, or 700 per week, represent a tiny 3.5% of the 20 000 tested every day, and include, of course, the 3 512 who won’t answer their phones to the … Continue reading Tourists returning from Spain ‘more likely to have caused second wave’

Never mind the bugs Jock, just sing ‘like they do in England!’

That evil Nicola Sturgeon, won’t even let the weans sing. See this plea: Teachers have called on Nicola Sturgeon to ‘stop demonising singing’ during the coronavirus crisis to allow children to be able to properly engage with music lessons. A review of ‘the science’ carried out by a Scottish music education charity [MEPG] concluded that there is no data showing a “statistically significant” added risk of viral transmission from singing and playing musical instruments on top of the “already considerable risk” in gathering socially when Covid restrictions are in place. And ‘the science?’ Well it’s one study but it is ‘ground-breaking‘ and ‘landmark!‘ It … Continue reading Never mind the bugs Jock, just sing ‘like they do in England!’

Like the Sun, I tell a lie, it’s 80% of cases contacted in 72 hours

The Herald still on it yesterday. For 4 or 5 days now absolutely every opposition party leader and all of the media, have been jumping with glee after discovering that Public Health Scotland’s spreadsheet algorithm had an error leading to it suggesting that a higher percentage of covid cases were contacted in 24 hours and, they shouted, versions of the Chris Musson’s: Corrected data shows that in five of eight weeks in September and October, Test and Protect staff failed to contact about half of positive cases within 24 hours of  being notified of swab results. As they celebrated what … Continue reading Like the Sun, I tell a lie, it’s 80% of cases contacted in 72 hours

As the ‘storm’ misses us, will Scotland’s ‘Leading Physicians’ write again ?

From STV ten days ago: A national strategy to manage hospitals during the second wave of Covid-19 is needed to ensure the NHS stays afloat through the “impending winter storm”, leading physicians have said. They warned that, unless Covid-19 is managed effectively in the country’s hospitals, “we cannot safely provide essential and elective care”. In a letter to The Times they wrote that their members are seeing a rapidly rising number of patients with Covid-19 being admitted to hospitals. In the letter, the presidents of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, the Royal College of Physicians of … Continue reading As the ‘storm’ misses us, will Scotland’s ‘Leading Physicians’ write again ?

No stomach for the fight

Imagine, you’re in a leftist pro-independence campaigning group. You hear the leaders of the Scottish Conservatives, Labour and Lib Dems telling outright lies every day in a desperate attempt to cling onto their diminishing support and to undermine the independence movement by constructing fake evidence of the SNP administration’s supposed incompetence. You can see, under their rule in England and Wales, the shocking proof in lives lost, of their own parties’ inability to fight a pandemic. You read reports across the media making the same distorted arguments. You watch English MPs regularly abusing democratically elected representatives of the Scottish people. … Continue reading No stomach for the fight
