Herald makes case for UDI for Scotland

Former health correspondent, Helen mcCardle, now tourism correspondent, leaves me confused on this on. She opens with that 8% above and then: Passengers on just 19 of the 247 flights landing at Scotland’s major airports next week will be subject to hotel quarantine, leading to fears that new Covid variants will continue to be imported. The Scottish Government is taking a tougher line than the UK Government by demanding 10-day supervised quarantine in hotels for all international arrivals, rather than the 33 ‘red list’ countries. 19 out of 247 is 7.7% but then we hear that, next week, Aberdeen has only 10 … Continue reading Herald makes case for UDI for Scotland

Closing the gap roughly speaking

Having protected the most vulnerable, Scotland’s mass vaccination centres have exceeded the UK average for 7 days now, and by a factor of more than two in the last 24 hours. As a result, the gap in the percentage of the population vaccinated has narrowed from 4% on the 1st February to only just over 2% today: At this rate, Scotland will overtake England in a week or so. In terms of the 7 day average per 100 000 population, Scotland passed England two days ago: In the last 24 hours the gap was already wide in the other direction … Continue reading Closing the gap roughly speaking

PREMIUM: Scotland jags ‘broadly, roughly, in the range of’ THREE TIMES AS MANY!

The First Minister just told us about ‘a pretty whopping increase of 61,299 since yesterday, which is by some distance the highest daily figure that we have recorded in Scotland so far.’ That’s 11 352 per 1 million population. Strangely enough the figure for England is not getting much attention, here or there. According to the Evening Standard, it was 253 688. That’s only 4 530 per 1 million population. So, broadly speaking like Jamie McIvor, Scotland vaccinated roughly, approaching, getting-on-for, three times as many. Must be those 6% of the vaccinators, from the Army. Continue reading PREMIUM: Scotland jags ‘broadly, roughly, in the range of’ THREE TIMES AS MANY!

An Offord they couldn’t refuse?

Malcolm Offord and No Borders Written by Andrew Rosie: “The Scotsman” reports to-day that Tory members in Lothian are upset that Malcolm Offord, who donated £150,000 to the party has been endorsed by Ruth Davidson as a Lothian List candidate over more established campaigners. https://www.scotsman.com/news/politics/scottish-tories-face-cronyism-accusations-after-ps150000-donor-wins-lothians-list-seat-endorsement-3128233 However, Offord’s main public political activity centred round the London based No Borders campaign which was given unrivalled promotion by the BBC in the run up to September 2014. Stalbury Trustees contributed £50,000 to the No Borders,” the non political grass roots” campaigning group set up by the Greenock-born financier Malcolm Offord who chipped in … Continue reading An Offord they couldn’t refuse?

The price paid for delaying care home vaccinations

Leaving aside for the moment the likely inaccuracy, that is understatement, in the ONS data for England, care home deaths have begun to climb dramatically there, while in Scotland, the increase has been arrested before falling. In Scotland, the Pfizer vaccine was introduced to care homes from the 14th of December and in England, I think, from the 21st. In Scotland, early logistical problems with low-temperature storage were overcome and all the efforts went into to care home delivery. By the end of January 95% had been done. In England, perhaps due to a more passive response to those same … Continue reading The price paid for delaying care home vaccinations

Because they’re safer there?

I speak from experience. My mum at 90 has just had her jag. I at 69, get mine this coming Friday, three hours after my wife who is only 65. My mum, shielding, and seen only by my sister, has multiple medications and her GP wanted to be careful about risking a home visit to give her the Covid vaccine after the flu vaccination. She was safe at home and happy to wait until it was safe. The Herald has ‘found’ four old folk whose relatives prefer to go to the press rather than the Health Secretary, for whatever reason. … Continue reading Because they’re safer there?

BBC ‘accuses’ STV of risking lives of vulnerable to get story before they can do the same!

Researchers at the University of Union Studies in Kilwinning have revealed that 17% of Scottish over 70 year-olds have been vaccinated after someone they know who is between one day and up to one year younger than them. This shocking study, allegedly funded by the Scotland in Union think tank, is expected to lead to calls for the resignation of Jeanne Freeman. Labour spokesperson Monica Lennon has said: ‘Eh, wait, 17%, is that like more than half?‘ Scottish Cons leader Douglas Ross shrieked: ‘Another failed SNP algorithm!’ BBC Scotland’s Donna Summers was heard to mutter: ‘I was right behind them. … Continue reading BBC ‘accuses’ STV of risking lives of vulnerable to get story before they can do the same!

LATEST: Calls for Scottish soldier vaccinators to be redeployed to england!

After doing so well at first with their ‘never-mind-the-hindmost‘ strategy, NHS England’s ‘world-beating‘ vaccination programme has fallen to last place in the UK. English Labour have described the situation as a ‘postcode lottery‘. No, they haven’t actually. I made that up based on a Scottish Conservatives line. English Labour have agreed the Government is doing its best. They probably know they wouldn’t have done any better. Continue reading LATEST: Calls for Scottish soldier vaccinators to be redeployed to england!

The question they should be asking

The question BBC Scotland is not asking, above. The question they and only they ARE asking: Why are care home residents still dying with Covid? BBC UK, England, Wales and Northern Ireland have not asked this question. Might this explain BBC UK/England’s looking away? Might the answer be something to do with the Tory world-beating vaccination strategy? At the end of 2020 and until the 10th of January, the reported number of confirmed and suspected Covid-related deaths was actually slightly higher in Scottish care homes but then things began to change. In the week ending the 17th January, the level … Continue reading The question they should be asking

Keep the pressure on

As I await a response to one of my complaints on the Andrew Marr show, 70 days ago, it’s clear the BBC Complaints department is struggling. After their supposed Education Correspondent’s difficulty with percentages yesterday, we should keep the pressure on: Join me please. Here’s the evidence they ignored too: Date England Scotland 31.1.21 5167 1782 1.2.21 5009 6459 2.2.21 5360 7126 3.2.21 6764 8349 4.2.21 6936 8919 5.2.21 7172 8132 6.2.21 7170 8185 7.2.21 8153 9718 Continue reading Keep the pressure on
