5 000 call for England to fall in line with Scotland on quarantine

Who is it under fire from? Well it’s him: He said for the benefit of BBC Scotland: ‘I really can’t see any way out of this apart from Scotland falling into line with England.’ He and the Telegraph both seem to be well out of touch with the wider population. A YouGov survey suggests a significant majority across the UK prefer Nicola’s system: Continue reading 5 000 call for England to fall in line with Scotland on quarantine

Yes if you look at the facts which of course you don’t

BBC Scotland’s Christopher Sleight off-hands this to us: First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says that falling Covid-19 deaths in care homes and among the oldest Scots is the first “hard evidence” the vaccination programme is working. Can this drop in deaths be attributed to the vaccine, or could there be another cause? Anon of BBC Scotland does its best to undermine the truth by dancing around the essential facts confirming both the First Minister’s claim and the far greater cut in deaths in Scotland than in England, clearly due to the Scottish strategy of protecting the care home as a priority … Continue reading Yes if you look at the facts which of course you don’t

In Defence of Nicola Sturgeon: Part 2 of 2 by Aladair Galloway

By Alasdair Galloway: Previously we have worked through a good deal of the case for the “prosecution” of Nicola Sturgeon. What follows is, broadly, the case for the defence. One of the most trenchant critics of the First Minister has been Stewart Campbell at Wings over Scotland, to the extent that when I see he is dealing with this topic I tend to stop reading. Campbell was a major asset in the 2014 campaign. I know people who still have their “Wee Blue Book” from back then. He undermined the Unionist case at every turn, even if he did have … Continue reading In Defence of Nicola Sturgeon: Part 2 of 2 by Aladair Galloway

Nicola Sturgeon – the case for the prosecution: Part 1 of 2 by Alasdair Galloway

By Alasdair Galloway: It seems probable that the First Minister will appear before the Holyrood Inquiry some time, maybe, into her government’s handling of the procedure with regard to Alex Salmond. At FMQs this week she called for us all to wait till we hear what she has to say then and not prejudge the issue. I am going to try to accommodate her in this reasonable request , but at the same time to point to some of the questions I hope she will be asked, whenever she appears, and to give some background why they seem important to … Continue reading Nicola Sturgeon – the case for the prosecution: Part 1 of 2 by Alasdair Galloway

PM NOT accused though deaths in English care homes still running at more than twice the rate in Scotland

Even with all care home residents in England offered the vaccine, that does not seem to have been enough to stem the tide of Covid deaths. In the week-ending 7th February, there were 1 330 deaths in English care homes but only 58 in Scottish care homes. England has ten times the population so had the rate been the same as in Scotland there would have been around 580 deaths. The rate, thanks to the Johnson regime strategy is 2.3 times higher. It makes you wonder if actually giving the jag is more effective than just sending a letter offering … Continue reading PM NOT accused though deaths in English care homes still running at more than twice the rate in Scotland

Tom Gordon: A cluster of right-wing Unionism and contempt for strong women?

Tom Gordon’s question at 51 min and 28 secs in shocked even me with its bad-tempered growl, repeat interruptions and offensive language. Now I’m all for a healthy disregard for authorities. Many deserve it. I failed to grow up in the late 60s, reading Marx, Sartre and the Scottish Anti-Psychiatrist RD Laing, leading me to decide with full confidence: ‘It’s all shit man!’ I still think a lot of it is still all shit. Scotland’s opposition leaders and the so-called experts at SAGE such as the shapeshifting Whitty, tell me I’m not all wrong. I’ve even detected a worrying aroma … Continue reading Tom Gordon: A cluster of right-wing Unionism and contempt for strong women?

Stitched-up by the inadequate

To be repeated throughout the day, based on a report by Audit Scotland. Inadequate? I’ve had to look at Audit Scotland’s so-called research many times before. More, much more below: First, here’s a key claim: The Scottish government was not adequately prepared for the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a new report by the public spending watchdog. The spending watchdog found that despite a number of pandemic planning exercises, not all the actions identified in these projects were fully implemented. These included measures to ensure access to enough personal protective equipment (PPE) and to quickly address social care capacity. Here’s a … Continue reading Stitched-up by the inadequate

Labour activist rentagob wheeled on by BBC Scotland to bad mouth SNP Government

This is Labour activist Sarah Chisnall presented tonight as a parent and member of a parent’s group but she is a long-time Labour activist with an agenda to criticise the SNP Government regardless. She says: I think we’ll only just about to hear in the next week or two, what the SQA have ‘come up with’ in conjunction with teachers to base the assessment on and really should we not have had that information available for them earlier than this because we knew that this lockdown was going to be fairly lengthy. She, of course, knows that the lockdown length … Continue reading Labour activist rentagob wheeled on by BBC Scotland to bad mouth SNP Government

‘Farce’ Trained researcher slams alcohol-fuelled amateurs

In the Herald today: The hospitality industry has lambasted a new first-of-its kind study which casts doubt on whether bar owners can effectively prevent Covid-19 transmission after observing “risks” over conduct in Scots licensed premises last summer. The critical research carried out by the University of Stirling in May to August last year came after a team scrutinised what was going on in 29 bars across Scotland. The British Beer & Pub Association accused the researchers of ‘seeking only one outcome.’ Here’s what the University of Stirling researchers found: A new first-of-its-kind study has questioned whether pub operators can effectively and consistently prevent … Continue reading ‘Farce’ Trained researcher slams alcohol-fuelled amateurs

Herald takes 2021 Clickbait and misinformation awards with same headline!

It’s a fantastic achievement. With only these facts to work on: A father and daughter who went into hotel quarantine in Scotland on Monday have been told they can leave after only one day, due to a loophole with their arrival. the Herald’s Senior Headline Editor, Jamie Ross(16) has turned these two wee fishes into a meal for thousands. ‘International travellers!‘ What, all of them? Thousands surely? No? Just the twa? I suppose it is better than the Sunday Post One: The judges were also impressed by the use of the Nicola photo because it was her, called to the airport, who told … Continue reading Herald takes 2021 Clickbait and misinformation awards with same headline!
