We’ve been here before with BBC Wales far too soft on the devolved government compared with BBC Scotland’s more determined approach when exploiting health problems.
Lisa Summers should probably not read on here.
BBC Wales had headlined the above, tamely:
Covid: Wales’ over-50s vaccine target success disputed
When you read the report, it’s full of juicy stuff any Daily Mail or Sun churnalist would just love, such as:
Garry Edwards, 51, from Anglesey, is registered as asthmatic and said he was still waiting for his invitation. He said he was previously told by his surgery only second jabs were being given, so he called Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board which confirmed he was on the list and would be called.
“I know a lot of people who have had, and a lot of people younger than me who have had it – I know people in their 40s who have had it,” Mr Edwards said on BBC Radio Wales Breakfast with Claire Summers. “It’s going to be done when it’s done but when you are told you are going to be invited to have it… and it hasn’t happened, then the statistics are wrong somewhere.”
Summers? Surely not.
Further on they have other listeners to the programme messaged to say they were also still waiting for a first vaccine.
What kind of reporting is that? We asked Glenn Campbell (16) and he told us he’d be happy to go with just one complainer, said we should ask a member of the opposition to accuse Nicola Sturgeon or Jeanne Freeman of lying but hide their name in the text and put a photo of the FM or the Health Secretary looking disappointed, right up front.
It’s not that difficult if you really want to have a say in forthcoming elections.
Wait, it’s a Labour government in Wales? Unionist? Ah….have the nationalists been obstructing debates on health with their indy obsessions? Think! Be creative.
Earlier stuff on BBC Wales:
Not for the first time BBC Wales shows itself to be a very different kind of organisation. Today, they posted this: Of course, had Scotland performed as badly as Wales has in failing to control the Covid outbreak, BBC Scotland might have been more keen to let us have the above comparison. Scotland has, thanks to our collective efforts and the actions of our devolved government, done much better than the other parts of the UK, so you won’t be seeing that graph on Reporting Scotland or hearing those data discussed on Good Morning Scotland or by John Beattie. Instead … Continue reading
A friend of the Tusker sent me this from Private Eye. My gob was well skelped but then I remembered writing this in September: THREE EXAMPLES OF DOUBLE STANDARDS: COMPARING THE BBC IN LABOUR WALES AND THE BBC IN SNP SCOTLAND On Monday 21st, MSM_Monitor spotted the BBC double standards, in only BBC Scotland and opposition parties seeing the need to ‘politicise a health briefing during a pandemic‘ and effectively ‘provide a platform for the new Scottish Tory leader.’ BBC Wales did not do the same to their Labour FM and there was, to my knowledge, no pressure from the … Continue reading
It’s in the Hereford Times and the New European but you’d never know from the MSM that the Labour First Minister for Wales has called for border controls to stop travellers from highly-infected parts of England coming into parts of Wales with low infection levels. He’s only asking for the same limits those in more infected parts of Wales face, on travel within Wales, but the Prime Minister has rejected his request. See the wee story, above, at the bottom, second left. BBC Wales are clearly not going there, as they say. Back in May, however, they had been happy … Continue reading
On Monday 21st, MSM_Monitor spotted the BBC double standards, in only BBC Scotland and opposition parties seeing the need to ‘politicise a health briefing during a pandemic‘ and effectively ‘provide a platform for the new Scottish Tory leader.’ BBC Wales did not do the same to their Labour FM and there was, to my knowledge, no pressure from the pro-independence opposition demanding the right to provide ‘other voices and perspectives‘ as Donalda MacKinnon, BBC Scotland director claimed were needed here. Yesterday, we could see evidence of the same double standards in action. In Covid-19 in Wales: What do the stats … Continue reading
