Brian Wilson forgets something……in 2006 Scottish Labour made Trump an ambassador

Wilson has typically seen the tragedies in the USA as an opportunity to somehow suggest the SNP are tainted with Trumpism. Ignoring the current SNP leader’s open contempt for the man, he has dug up the Scottish Government’s error of judgement in honouring him. Of course, he neglects to remember that Labour First Minister Jack McConnell did something similar in 2006. While googling Wilson for more to mention here, this popped up: On 1 October 2003, Brian Wilson MP called for the abolition of Scotland’s list MSPs. He said: In the Highlands & Islands, every one of these people finished … Continue reading Brian Wilson forgets something……in 2006 Scottish Labour made Trump an ambassador

Spot the difference? One of these images tells the whole truth, the other hides it

Headlining the Herald this afternoon is the lower of the two images above. It doesn’t tell a lie it just avoids telling you more truth. Especially when they see ‘Scottish expert’ what percentage of Herald readers will think that Jeane Freeman and colleagues will need to learn? The professor is clear, referring to the UK Government three times in the text but never to Scotland or to the Scottish Government. It seems clear who she thinks has to learn. Why doesn’t the headline mention that? Oh, no doubt we’re all being paranoid and anyway there wasn’t enough space for it! … Continue reading Spot the difference? Pathetic political opportunism to score points over SNP with unreliable death statistics

Labour’s Monica Lennon in cahoots with the Herald’s Tom Gordon attempt to undermine Scottish Government policy in the face of overwhelming support for both it, the First Minister and the SNP. The statistics they use do not indicate, crucially, whether or not these patients were infected before or after admission. The headlines are, as they stand, lies. Even if there was evidence for the claims, these deaths would make up, according to Gordon, only 5.6% of all coronavirus deaths. The figure for England is estimated at nearly 20%. The unreliability of the data make a call for an inquiry just … Continue reading Pathetic political opportunism to score points over SNP with unreliable death statistics

Massive new Scottish offshore windfarm to create 400 jobs and power 1 million homes

In Energy Voice today: We are seeing the first green shoots of the economic recovery we can make along Scotland’s east coast through new offshore wind projects. Seagreen will create around 400 jobs during construction and will deliver an estimated £1 billion-plus in economic benefits to Scotland and the UK. Much of that economic benefit as well as those jobs will be in Angus, including high quality, full-time jobs that will work out of Montrose Port to service the wind farm throughout its 25-year lifetime. Construction will start next year, and when it’s completed in 2022/23, Seagreen will be Scotland’s single … Continue reading Massive new Scottish offshore windfarm to create 400 jobs and power 1 million homes

‘Edinburgh has fast become the best location for tech companies’

In Insider today: Simon Capaldi, office agency partner at Knight Frank Edinburgh, puts it succinctly: “Edinburgh has fast become the best location for tech companies in the UK, with the exception of London and perhaps Cambridge. “That’s reflected in the high quality of businesses being set up or choosing to locate here, ranging from newly formed fintech start-ups to established businesses which are scaling rapidly. Many of them are emerging from Codebase or spinning out from the city’s eight universities and colleges.” Indeed, West Central Edinburgh boasts a remarkable collection of tech businesses and a now well-established ecosystem that supports … Continue reading ‘Edinburgh has fast become the best location for tech companies’

Herald’s Tom Gordon reveals hospital-acquired coronavirus cases in NHS England THREE TIMES higher than in NHS Scotland

In the Herald today, based on Scottish Government figures released ‘after being pressed by the Herald’ (Don’t snigger): It also means six per cent of all of Scotland’s confirmed Covid cases first became ill in hospital after being admitted for a different reason. A quick search finds these NHS England figures in the Guardian on 17th May: Up to 20% of hospital patients with Covid-19 caught it at hospital. Up to a fifth of patients with Covid-19 in several hospitals contracted the disease over the course of the pandemic while already being treated there for another illness, NHS bosses have told senior doctors … Continue reading Herald’s Tom Gordon reveals hospital-acquired coronavirus cases in NHS England THREE TIMES higher than in NHS Scotland

Herald writer, sick ‘after’ years of moral corrosion-virus rampaging through his soul, undermines trust in hospitals

There are times when I think why go like on this? All our readers are ‘woke’ to the lies, distortion and mere clickbait being generated by some Herald writers with a Unionist agenda. Then someone writes to say thanks for enabling them to see what’s going on, so I think, one new convert every week or so is still worth it. Today, Tom Gordon, who surely knows what he’s doing, employs the ‘after’ word to imply that Scottish hospitals have failed their patients and irresponsibly scare your granny before she’s admitted for that long-needed hip operation . Reporting Scotland loved … Continue reading Herald writer, sick ‘after’ years of moral corrosion-virus rampaging through his soul, undermines trust in hospitals

BREXIT …. don’t let the camouflage fool you!

By stewartb: Coverage of coronavirus has dominated the news media for months. It’s important. However, almost hidden from view in Scotland – away from much public comment or scrutiny – there are important negotiations being conducted elsewhere to decide the relationship the UK (and by extension, Scotland) will have with the EU after the Brexit transition period. The issue of Brexit, once so controversial and so prominent, is now at best under camouflage in Scotland. And if we wait too long to expose it, will we discover too late that its former potency has evaporated? In a Scottish context, it … Continue reading BREXIT …. don’t let the camouflage fool you!

English scientists’ Anglo-centrism as they ignore lessons from Scottish coronavirus simulation in 2018

Referring to the SAGE (Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies) members failure to consider the findings of the exercise, Professor Sridhar, chair of public health at Edinburgh University , said: It feels like a lost opportunity…On the positive side it’s good that these exercises were conducted, because it meant that they were thinking beyond flu, they were thinking about coronaviruses. But on the negative side it’s surprising, it seems that SAGE (Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies) members were unaware or at least didn’t discuss this exercise in their thinking in January or February, which would have been crucial in making steps to actually … Continue reading English scientists’ Anglo-centrism as they ignore lessons from Scottish coronavirus simulation in 2018
