It’s Angus for me and for most of you it seems

Despite what some may think, I’ve had two, quite big, reservations about Nicola. Her apparent deep admiration for the dread Hilary Clinton and uncritical support for US foreign policy in 2015, pre-Ukraine of course, had me fully slapped round the face with a very wet and stinky haddock. Nevertheless, those have been the only, if big, reservations. On everything else, I’ve agreed and at the end, I rate her the outstanding politician of her time. Who can replace her? Not at all easy. I’ve been unsure, but today, it’s coming together for me. A quick twitter poll by indy swim … Continue reading It’s Angus for me and for most of you it seems

Ayrshire MSP now full-time with Daily Record but gets an F in reporting homelessness statistics

Sharon Dowey, Con List (not-voted-for) MSP is in the Daily Record nearly every week, these days. BBC Wales and BBC Scotland reveal the bias gap again

Comparing the reporting of BBC Scotland with that of the BBC elsewhere in the UK is always highly illustrative of the bias gap as the former politicise every issue and allow the opposition parties and an easy platform to attack the SNP, unchecked. So, today, from BBC Wales: Plans for a bypass have been halted as part of an end to road building projects in Wales. On Tuesday, the Welsh government announced all major road building projects would be scrapped over environmental concerns. It included the Cynon Gateway North in Rhondda Cynon Taf in a list of schemes which would … Continue reading BBC Wales and BBC Scotland reveal the bias gap again

Sturgeon Cartoon: Is Dave Brown the lovechild of Steve Bell and Gordon Brown?

As soon as I saw Dave Brown’s cartoon in the Independent today, I thought where have I see that ugly, unimaginative, borderline racism before? Then I remembered. Steve Bell of the Guardian who once called me a ‘nationalist dupe.’ This in 2015: In 2014, this: and in 2013, worst of all: Don’t try to imagine Steve Bell and Gordon Brown making a baby. Don’t!!! A very similar style? Can you blame your boy for copying his dad? Continue reading Sturgeon Cartoon: Is Dave Brown the lovechild of Steve Bell and Gordon Brown?

Different parts of Belgium, different deposit return schemes!

By cuckooshoe (Campanula rotundifolia or Harebell) So business and opposition parties insist Scotland can only have a Deposit Return Scheme if it is UK wide, whereas in Belgium.. “The deposit on bottles and cans shows itself as an effective measure against litter. The pilot project ran for a full month from 15 July to 15 August 2022. In Bredene, the Twins Club and beach bars sold their plastic bottles and cans with an additional 0.20€ deposit, clearly visible thanks to a sticker placed on them. Consumers could then manually return the packaging and redeem their deposit at each of the … Continue reading Different parts of Belgium, different deposit return schemes!

Forbes Grattan and the letters they do publish

Alasdair Galloway This morning well-known Union supporting Denis Forbes Grattan’s letter appeared in the Herald. It reads “THE Deposit Return Scheme is now only fit for the bin as major drinks and brewing companies describe the scheme as totally unworkable. The scheme has great potential for recycling and litter control but simply won’t work in the UK national distribution system unless it is adopted by the entire UK.” Is there not something of a contradiction between the two paragraphs? The first condemns the scheme pretty comprehensively – “only fit for the bin” and “totally unworkable”. Yet in the next breath … Continue reading Forbes Grattan and the letters they do publish

Even in Lord Ashcroft poll, 46% of vote is for pro-independence parties

From the Lord Ashcroft poll on 3rd February 2023, the breakdowns of the support in the total sample and crucially in the only 65% who named a party, are: Con 12%, 18.4% Lab 16%, 24.6% LD 4%, 6.2% Reform 2%, 3% SNP 26%, 40% Alba 1%, 1.5% Green 3%, 4.6% For some reason the Ashcroft poll don’t offer the above figures. Campbell and Cook – BBC Bias ad nauseam?

I’ve written about these two more times than is good for my health. Here are some reminders of what they do: Just one from GC: Despite the fact the Scottish and UK Governments are following broadly similar strategies, making similar mistakes, achieving similar outcomes, there is a big paradox here. The public perception is Nicola Sturgeon is handling this pandemic far better than Boris Johnson. The words of Glen Campbell, above, are not entirely surprising though they continue to shock with their dishonesty. He and colleagues at BBC Scotland, along with fellow travellers across the Scottish and UK media, continue to … Continue reading Campbell and Cook – BBC Bias ad nauseam?

Conservative government’s bottle and can deposit return scheme supported by 83%

Thanks to Andrew Rosie for alerting me to this. From Theresa Coffey’s department in January 2023: Many countries have successfully used deposit return schemes (DRS) to increaserecycling rates of drinks containers, with well-functioning schemes achieving collectiontargets of 90% or higher. This document sets out the response to the second consultationheld in 2021 on developing a DRS, and the next steps for scheme delivery. The 2021 consultation recognised the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic andasked respondents how the pandemic may have influenced their views on a DRS. Theappetite for introducing a DRS remained strong, with 83% of respondents expressingsupport for … Continue reading Conservative government’s bottle and can deposit return scheme supported by 83%
