England lagging further behind on both vaccines rollout

Some months now after Reporting Scotland was delighting in fabricating the idea that Scotland was lagging behind the rest of the UK as we, of course, followed JCVI guidelines to protect the vulnerable rather than rack up as many easy jags as possible. We’ve been ahead of England and Northern Ireland since early April and closing the gap on Wales, on both jags. Coverage? None of course. Burnham accused of double standards over Wales and Scotland and shifting for leadership

In September 2020 an Elvis Festival in Bridgend, Wales, was cancelled, preventing fans from Bolton near Manchester, from attending and incurring considerable costs. Bridgend council leader Huw David (Labour) said: “There will be no Elvis here meeting them, they will be met by South Wales Police force and action will be taken against people who break the law.” Mayor Andy Burnham (Labour) did not protest that the Welsh Government had not consulted him and there have been no attempts to sue Bridgend Council. No Lancashire politicians appeared on BBC Wales to say that First Minister Mark Drakeford did not speak … Continue reading Burnham accused of double standards over Wales and Scotland and shifting for leadership

Andy Burnham’s car crash

By a friend: Andy Burnham’s car crash with Newsnight’s Kirsty Wark is well worth a watch: http://order-order.com/2015/01/28/watch-angry-burnhams-newsnight-nightmare/ A very tetchy Shadow Health Secretary began the interview by admitting “there is a role for the private sector”, then piled into the Tories for putting “all services” at the hands of the market. As Kirsty politely pointed out, only 6% of NHS services have been outsourced to the private sector, and the vast majority of that was done by Burnham’s Labour government: https://www.holyrood.com/news/view,interview-alex-neil-msp_11001.htm “The second thing is you have to look at and compare what these opposition parties have been doing down south. The £20bn cuts in the English health … Continue reading Andy Burnham’s car crash

‘One step closer to ensuring parents get the time they need to grieve and process a miscarriage’

From: snpmedia@snpmedia.net SNP MP Angela Crawley will today present her Private Members Bill to change the law to ensure those who experience a miscarriage are given at least three days paid leave. The MP for Lanark and Hamilton East has led the campaign to introduce paid miscarriage leave. In a cross-party letter to the Prime Minister, she highlighted that around one in eight pregnancies will end in miscarriage, meaning thousands of women and men are “suffering profound loss without adequate time to grieve.” The SNP government is committed to introducing three days of paid miscarriage leave within the public sector in Scotland … Continue reading ‘One step closer to ensuring parents get the time they need to grieve and process a miscarriage’

‘Sturgeon’, ‘Scots’ and ‘SNP’ accused of trying to protect ‘Scots’

‘Sturgeon’, ‘SNP’ or ‘Scots’, everywhere blamed for making a decision to protect Scots but which inconveniences English holidaymakers. The terms ‘Scottish Government’ or ‘First Minister’ are avoided lest anyone think they might have a legal responsibility and a right to protect Scots. Surely, BBC Scotland, a public service broadcaster paid for by Scots will offer a Scottish Government perspective? Nope and their wee Breakfast TV broadcast insert managed 4 negatives on Scottish Government policy , in the space of only 2 minutes before the weather. And, from this eminent member of the twitterati: Yes Sir, We Can Boogie@msm_monitor First three … Continue reading ‘Sturgeon’, ‘Scots’ and ‘SNP’ accused of trying to protect ‘Scots’

Royal College tells NHS England to copy NHS Scotland and tell the truth

The Royal College of Emergency Medicine, in its call for a ‘Summer to Recover‘ campaign, outlines a series of recommendations to ensure that Emergency Departments do not become the system failure service this winter. The above, from 4 key requests, will strike a chord with TuS regulars. For more than a year now, I’ve been reporting on NHS Scotland’s superior A&E performance and noting that the gap is almost certainly even greater because NHS England fiddles its data. For any who have missed this, the gap is probably even greater because. BBC Scotland has accused NHS England of fiddling the … Continue reading Royal College tells NHS England to copy NHS Scotland and tell the truth

‘Failing to stand up for Scotland’

From: snpmedia@snpmedia.net The SNP has said Douglas Ross is “failing to stand up for Scotland” over the growing threat to Scottish farmers and crofters from the Tory government’s Australia trade deal. Deidre Brock MP said the Scottish Tory Leader was making claims that are “simply not credible” – after a BBC Sunday Show interview in which Douglas Ross repeatedly dodged questions and gave misleading answers. When challenged by presenter Martin Geissler “why was there no dialogue between the UK and Scottish Government?” – Douglas Ross dodged the question When challenged about the concerns of Scotland’s farming communities on tariff-free imports, the Scottish … Continue reading ‘Failing to stand up for Scotland’
