What is the survival rate for coronavirus patients in NHS Scotland’s intensive care?

In the Observer this morning:

‘The mortality rate for patients put in intensive care after being infected with Covid-19 is running at close to 50%, a report has revealed. Data from the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC) showed that of 165 patients treated in critical care in England, Wales and Northern Ireland since the end of February, 79 died, while 86 survived and were discharged. The figures were taken from an audit of 775 people who have been or are in critical care with the disease, across 285 intensive care units. The remaining 610 patients continue to receive intensive care. The high death rate raises questions about how effective critical care will be in saving the lives of people struck down by the disease.’

Neither the Observer report nor the ICNARC report mention Scotland at all. You’d ahve thought there’d be at least a reason given for why Scottish data are not included. I couldn’t find the data but did find this showing Scottish ICU mortality at around 13%:

I appreciate these are not comparable data. Can a reader help us find the data for ICU survival rates for coronavirus in Scotland?

  1. Looks like we will have to get figures from within Scotland , MSM down south are not willing to report , they must not see an Snp baad angle at the moment , but I do see the ramping up of Alex Salmond , any port in a storm ! .

    1. Don’t recall the same degree of interest among the Brit Nat scribblers in the Gamma White and Dame Lara Cox inquiries into “naughties” at Westminster.

Or when a Deputy Prime Minister was accused of groping and immoral “suggestions”.

Or watzisname—the Tory trouser fondler. Etc etc etc.

    2. Oh my oh my, I’ve just read some of what the papers are publishing on Alex Salmond – what are they doing?! A public statement by an anonymous group, trashing the justice system,,, to pursue what can only now be certain, as was alleged, a political motivation – these are people at the centre of scotgov and have influence to change the system of prosecuting for sexual assault, so do not need to pursue an agenda of trashing a verdict and imply a man is guilty when proven not. Are these groups and individuals now so far removed from reality they have no understanding of the damage they are doing. I’m horrified they are pursuing this at this time too. Put forward propositions on how the system can be improved if they believe it’s not adequate, not what they are doing. It’s going to be a hard sell convincing the public that pinging someone’s hair is sexual assault and the perpetrator should be jailed for it though.

It makes the Scottish government look bad, it makes Scotland look bad, and it’ll erode public confidence in Scotland being able to govern itself – the anonymous accusers (as was stated in court) are all central SNP and government people – and they have demonstrated they are not in touch with reality or understand consequences. I despair.

      1. Your comment, some days, in support of Alex Salmond carried weight for me. I met AS a couple of times, I watched as he posed with women for selfies, he was his selling his book “The Dream Will Never Die”. If he was an out of control lecherous perv then an opportunity offering such close contact to be taken advantage of, I saw nothing untoward. Nothing giving rise to uneasiness or uncomfortable feelings.

        As to the attacks on Alex Salmond in the papers;
at this time with the virus death toll ramping up, especially in England, to come out with this, I smell coordination. I see this as just the start of an orchestrated media attack on Scotland’s notion of independence.

Polls are moving upwards, nothing has been said but the Scottish Government is taking an increasing diverging approach with the Scottish Health Service in dealing with the epidemic and with good effect (Ch4 has noticed). Yesterday South Africa were written down to Junk status and the UK credit rating has been devalued to AA minus. The UK with 1,9 trillion of dept and an increased likelihood of an independent Scotland, Westminster’s arse cheeks will be making buttons (I think it is an economist’s saying).

Perhaps we can start to turn the attacks to help independence. Perhaps like, “15 Scottish jurors criticised by English papers”.

  3. John, RevStu’s twitter is replete with links (too much to find everything maybe) and he’s written an article. Craig has just tweeted this though:

Alan Gordon: good thoughts there, especially about turning this around. But the Sunday national has run a piece smearing AS, a supposedly pro-indy paper. It does seem like the majority of people are outraged, so it might have the opposite effect on public opinion than what was desired. I’ve yet to see a comment from a woman saying they feel ’empowered’ by these women’s actions – embarrassed and angry is closer to the mark – and very few suggesting any support. People are saying they are unsubscribing to the National, and some dropping support to Rape Crisis Scotland over this. Might all be knee jerk reactions of course.

    1. Aye, I have just read the letter. My reading of it? More of a face saving, a rallying cry for others to get behind their banner, than a salvo heralding a fresh attack.

There has to be an inquiry into this and if a conspiratorial element is uncovered, then we should see a leap in the indy polls. If there are conspiritors, are the laws of treason still alive?

The worry; Nicola Sturgeon could either be complicit or an easily conned naive. Sturgeon and Salmond need to exchange what they know, to be in readiness.
