From BBC UK today:
Cleveland Police’s Chief Constable has said she is proud of her “brave” force but that it was being “let down” by the way it was funded, following a fatal crash which killed seven people including two police officers.
In her first sit-down interview since the A66 crash, speaking exclusively to the BBC, Victoria Fuller said the force needed to become part of a larger force with greater resources.
She said her officers are dealing with some of the highest crime levels in the country akin to those faced by metropolitan forces, but with less than half the number of officers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqlw67ngpp1o
How does Cleveland compare?
Overall crime:

Cleveland also has the highest overall violence at 44.3 per 1 000. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/middlesbrough-cleveland-crime-rates-b3041052.html
Cleveland’s police chief is correct. They face real problems disproportionate to their size confirming the wisdom of Scotland’s merger of forces to produce a single national force for 5.5 million people..
Thinking back to BBC Scotland’s ‘Welcome to Glasgow’, so-called ‘documentary’, how do its supposedly ‘mean streets‘ compare?
Overall crime 85 per 1 000 so Cleveland has 50% more. Overall violence (not measured in exactly the same way) but 19 per 1 000, less than half Cleveland’s 44.3.
