Front page in the Herald today, the British Medical Associations’ branch convener, part-time GP and a man who used to have a Union Flag at the top of his x/twitter page, Dr Iain Kennedy leaves with this absurd claim:

Just how privatised is NHS Scotland? Here are just a few comparisons with NHS England:

The scale of the drift to privatisation – Nearly 100% of GPs in Scotland work in the NHS but only 66% do so in England
STV News seems unable to tell us how tiny the percentage is in Scotland and that there were almost twice as many private healthcare admissions per head in England
NHS Scotland – only half the diagnostic scans outsourcing and building capability rather than just relying on private sector
One third of English patients using private dentists because they have only half the level of access to NHS dentists in Scotland

Kennedy’s ‘forced to go private’ claim is also easily rebutted:

NHS England waiting list queue is 300 000 or 5% longer than Scotland’s

  1. There you go again , John , expecting FACTS to sway the poseur that is Dr(?) Kennedy .

    If he was interested in facts he wouldn’t be associated with The Hootsman ( or any other mainstream publishing outfit ). He is there for the exposure ( of his best photogenic side ?) , posing as a serious medical man . LoL !

  4. Scottish Gov spends £22Billion on SNHS and social care. 40% of the Scottish budget. £17Billion goes to the (unionist) health boards.

    People have manageable conditions. So wait for dangerous operations. Urgent cases are treated sooner. Some operations carry risks. If they are manageable conditions it can better to wait longer. Until really necessary.

    Going private jumps the queue. Leaving others to foot the bill. The SNHS trained Drs and nurses. Costs £thousands to train a doctor. The experience of SNHS training.

    Long term care is expensive. Private healthcare does not cover it.
