What is the basis for the above claim?
The primary source is Police Scotland’s Quarter 1 Year-to-Date Performance Report (April–June 2025), presented to the SPA Policing Performance Committee around mid-September 2025. The Scottish Police Authority (SPA) paper, external said there were 17 attempted murders involving 20 children in the three months between April and June 2025. The report also confirms that from April to June 2024, there were only 5 attempted murders involving a suspect under the age of 18. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y9qzyn5e7o
So, the basis is a comparison of Q1 in 2025 with the same Q1 in 2024, suggesting an increase of 12 from 5 to 17.
It’s the 14th of August 2026, today, do we know yet how Q2 2025 figures compared?
Yes, there were only 2, down from 17!

It has been obvious for some considerable time that BBC Scotland has no interest in providing accurate information about statistics if these can be misused to attack the Scottish Government .
Day after day , week after week , they display a complete lack of integrity when reporting ”news” in Scotland .
They act against Scottish interests by constantly seeking to undermine its democratically elected Government , either by misrepresentation of news stories to paint a negative picture of the SNP/Government , or by omission of any ”good news ” stories which might reflect well on the Government .
I am surprised that the heavy cloud which obscured the ‘eclipse’ recently was not blamed on the SNP Government !

The Faragist narrative is ‘Lawless Britain’. Ergo the media select of distort information to fit that narrative. Since the ‘journalists’ read each other’s tweets, there is a tendency for them to congregate around a consensus and they quote each other to ‘justify’ their story.
In Scotland, the media are largely unionist and also right wing – which includes ‘Scottish’ Labour – and, in addition to their Faragist tendency – they also frame stories as ‘Scotland bad’. They did this even in the early days of the Scottish Parliament during the eight years of Labor/Lib Dem administrations.
As the structures of the UK state become increasingly more dilapidated, their stories become increasingly ludicrous as the scrabble to shore it up.

When Labour were in control at Holyrood, (for ten years!) they made sure Scotland was ‘bad’, with their PFI schemes and sending £billions back to Westminster saying, ‘nothing to spend it on in Scotland’. ‘Nothing’. Not health, education, social care, infrastructure, jobs, investment in the young, nope, ‘nothing’.
Their PFI scheme used to build hospitals etc, was a massive scam, a con on the people of Scotland. Costing far more than it should have, with buildings unsafe or not fit for purpose.
Also let’s remember that every party at Holyrood voted against the SNP proposal to build the new Forth road bridge even though the old one was becoming unsafe.
An essential route for Scotland, which would have been rendered inaccessible had the SNP not gone ahead and invested in building the new bridge.
I bet those who didn’t want the bridge built, use it now.
Labour also planned to sell off Scottish Water to private companies, they’d do that if ever, scary thought, they were to take control of the Scottish government again.

But, it was Labour controlled Strathclyde Regional Council which effectively stymied the Tories plans to privatise water in Scotland. Scottish Water remains in public control as a consequence of that. The disaggregation of Strathclyde Regional Council was a consequence of that, too.

Number of murders committed by under eighteens in Scotland 2-4 a year.
Number of murders committed in Scotland 45 a year, The lowest figure since 1976.
Abused women cannot get legal aid. They do in the South, so they do not have to sell their house. Sometimes homeless. They have to stay too long in dangerous situations.
Most murders are committed by males, Crime is a gender issue. Committed while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. ‘Drinks in wit’s oot’.
