Islanders have photos of empty shelves caused by ferry fiasco but only on the Channel Islands

From BBC Jersey, today:

Shop shelves in Jersey have been empty of fresh produce since Monday due to cancelled freight ferries. Condor Ferries’ conventional sailings were cancelled on Monday and Tuesday “due to operational reasons”, the company said.

The boats carry freight and fresh food, as well as passengers, to the Channel Islands. Condor Ferries has been contacted for comment.

That’s all. Nobody blames the Channel Islands or UK governments for a failure to invest in new ferries. No islander says – ‘Right! That’s it! I’m off.

They have the proof of empty shelves, above.

I seem to remember similar suggestions of empty shelves on Scottish islands when ferries were cancelled. Was it South Uist? Mull? Arran?

All I can find actually published is a 2022 report by the Herald‘s Mark Smith, claiming:

I’m chatting to someone who lives on Arran and ask him what effect the ferries are having on his life. Let me show you, he says. He sends me a picture he took on his phone the other day: Friday November 25 at the Brodick Co-op. He’d popped in to get some veg for dinner. Fat chance. Nothing there. Empty shelves. You’d get more vegetables in the Ukraine than Brodick, he says.

The Herald report has 5 photos but strangely, in the light of the above, not one of an empty shelf.

  1. The unionist media will probably use the photos under the heading:

”Islander says, ‘is this what out shops will have to look like before this SNP Government will deal with the ferry fiasco. A man on Arran said, “There is more chance of getting fresh vegetables in Ukraine.””

  2. An anonymous man on an unnamed Scottish island claimed to BBC / Herald/STV that his supply of Beluga caviar , White truffles and Matsutake mushrooms have been unavailable on at least one occasion at his Holiday cottage in the last decade due to the inadequate Ferry Service provided by the Scottish Government .

The media have asked the Transport Minister and Jamie Oliver for their reactions , and Police Scotland have been informed by as this may be a Hate Crime against posh , entitled pr*cks !
