BBC UK used the above map to inform folk across the UK about today’s worrying nurse strikes. BBC Scotland, luckily for them, could just ignore it because they had hundreds off grid, due to snow, in Shetland to focus on. Thank goodness for that. I could have flown to Shetland today and got stuck if they hadn’t warned me.
Well it is a bit tasteless I suppose. It kind of suggests Scots are better off today and some folk might even think the Scottish Government, that SNP one, spoke to the nurses and offered them a better, more progressive, deal.
BBC UK/England don’t seem to mind this sort of whataboutery. You know the kind of thing BBC Scotland’s John Beattie will shout down if, say, Scotland’s senior vet suggests we have less avian flu but which is nevertheless a big favourite when it comes to old drug deaths data?
I feel sure that this has happened before – good news about Scotland on BBC UK but then ignored by RS – but can’t find it in the blog archives, quickly.
Talking-up Scotland 
I am sure that BBCscorchedland wish that The Supreme Court judgement said that the SG had no authority to hold a referendum or negotiate pay deals , or run its own trains or pay better benefits to the needy , or employ more nurses , GPs , Dentists etc…
Until that happens they will just report Scottish news as if it did !

Look at the map again and wonder why Wales is a different colour and Scotland is not, nor is Northern Ireland.
Also why does Ireland and France not exist.
Especially since the norm is to show a country or area in relation to it’s geographic neighbour’s by highlighting it with a boundary line or different colour.
I seem to remember the EBC got into difficulty’s with maps before, by displaying them in a horizon perspective. Where Scotland was displayed as disproportionately small in comparison to England due to the angle of view.
