    1. John,

Don’t give them the satisfaction. Take a break or reduce your frequency of commenting. But don’t give up entirely. If you stop, they’ve won. A lot of people read your posts and rely on the rigour of your analysis and comment.

And I was there when the BBC stirred the shit with our bosses. There wasn’t a single one of my colleagues who wasn’t outraged by that. We all thought it was the BBC tryng to censor fair comment.

    1. You’ve done so much and are a source of truth and inspiration to me and many others. I look forward to your posts and often wonder how you manage to keep going. You are only human. A wonderful human being raging against the mendacity of the machine. Good luck and thank you for all you have done. Take care and stay strong.

    1. Take a break John – no wonder you feel exhausted. But come back as soon as you can: your work is vital- and we must be heading into the referendum soon. Thank you for the amazing material you provide for us all. Best wishes. xx

  2. You perform a most useful service in holding BBC Scotland and others to account especially now that Wings has more or less gone. But good luck if you feel it’s too much!

  3. I am so sorry and incredibly saddened about that John, you have been such an amazing and stalwart asset to Scotland, Scottish democracy and the independence cause. I can understand you being burnt out, and hope we see you again here or on other blogs.
Take care of yourself, your mental health and happiness is the most important thing.

I have a link to a site I found which maybe relevant to you personally, I will send it on when I have time. Please do not be too despondent and don’t let the barstewards get you down as the saying goes, and look after yourself.
Very very best wishes, Hetty. (x)

  8. Oh no! I read your posts every day and quote them. Please have a break and carry on posting when you feel up to it. But best wishes for the future and thanks for everything you’ve contributed.

  9. You will be sorely missed. No else has challenged the mendacity of the Unionist press and parties. No one like you gets tired or gives up of their own free will. What did they do to get to you?

  10. If you do quit John, I respect your decision. You have been a constant source of inspiration to us all.

I canot help thinking, Wings has closed down, now John is giving up. Agent Sturgeon has played a blinder on behalf of the British Establishment.

When the time comes, she will fit-in nicely in the House of Lords.

  11. John, you’ve been a bit of an inspiration and a font of knowledge but only you know what to do. Guess there’s no one to take the reins. We’ll all miss your site. Very best of luck, loon. Take care. Joe

  12. John, I completely understand your position. I feel it myself now too. The relentless propaganda and manipulation wears you down like a corrosive poison. But please please consider taking a break, then come back at a reduced level. Maybe pick the one or two standout items each day. Your work is too important and valuable/valued to give up permanently.

  13. Thank you John for everything.
I am sure you have opened more than a few eyes as to to how the British state operates in our country.
Maybe time to smell the flowers.
    Good luck.

  14. When WOS called it a day someone posted the following, which stuck with me and is entirely applies to you,

There’s an Alexander Solzhenitsyn quote. It seems fitting.

“You can resolve to live your life with integrity. Let your credo be this: Let the lie come into the world, let it even triumph. But not through me.””

  15. Thanks for all the work that you have put into the posts over the past few years – points invariably made with a rational appeal to evidence and sources to back them up – and a sense of humour. It has been a pleasure to read them.

  16. I can understand your fatigue John. But a good break may be all that you need. And you could take as long as necessary. Please come back. You could reduce your involvement and perhaps attack our opponents from a different angle. Whatever it needs for your well-being. But, whatever you decide, we will always be grateful for your hard work and dedication to the cause. Take care.

  17. John,
Don’t let the B#stards grind you down.
Take a break, give it a few weeks and I hope you’ll feel refreshed and come back fighting.
I’ve Admined a large pro-SNP/Indy site for around 6 years now and every now and again I need to take a break and do. I have though a big team around me that I built deliberately to take the weight off. It works well.
    Hoping you come back soon.

  18. John, given the divided YES movement, I can fully understand you aw’fuk’it’decision after all the invaluable work you have done. But from an auld yin, fast approaching his (finger’an’toes’crossed) 82nd. please take some time off and then reconsider. At the very least, get on twitter and Quora and help do battle with the BritNats.

  19. Hello John. Very sad to see this development but its understandable – I think a lot of us are ‘done’. The energy of the movement is dissipating and hope is now turning to disillusion. I feel it myself. Yes, I will still vote yes if I ever get the opportunity but each day becomes a weary disappointment. The fractures in the yes movement are also disturbing and yet at the same time polling seems to show a good solid 50% for independence. That is something. Perhaps, rather than shut the blog down, it could remain as a source of reading for the likes of myself who do not use social media by growing the ‘collective’ idea. We read good articles here from the likes of Stuartb, Alasdair Galloway, indyref2soon amongst others; couldn’t we expand this into a team of contributors and make this website as good a source for Scotland as Nation Cymru?

  20. Saddened to hear that decision John, but it’s your life to prioritise, and goodness knows you’ve knocked your pan out giving insight and a platform to many others who have added perspectives, a massive body of work.

No doubt I’ll bump into your witty and pointed observations elsewhere, but as I don’t do Twitter it is unlikely to be on MSM_Monitor.
The very best to you and yours…

  21. Distressed is the only word I can think of.
Your site has been my first stop every day for years, and your information invaluable. It is a ‘gift’ to the unionists and their BBC propaganda outfit at Pathetic Key.
So sad, but awra best to you and thanks.

  23. Sorry to hear that you have decided to quit John. The work you have done over the years is immense and invaluable but I do fully understand how coping with such incessant and shameless lying can get you down.

All the very best for the future and a sincere thank you for all you have done in the past. Your contribution will be greatly missed.

  24. John, you are a light in the growing darkness of Fascism. I wish you nothing but the best and hope one day that you will return to embarrass the media once more.

  25. Good luck for the future, hopefully you will get peace of mind. It must be a real struggle to keep going against the onslaught of propaganda and downright lack of effort by the media in general. Have enjoyed your debunking of their efforts and will be sorry to see you go but fully appreciate all you have done.

  26. John – the rest of us rely too much on the energy of people like yir guid sel’. Your rest is well overdue. I’d have been walking the dug long afore now.

One request. I have no idea how websites work. Can the site be left open so that the gold in the archives remains available?

  27. John, I’m very sorry you’ve decided to stop writing your posts. Your output has been invaluable, and I’ve used your journalism and sources in my efforts to regain Scotland’s independence.

If there’s a way for you to keep the site alive so that people can keep on using “Search all the posts” and the “Archives”, that would be brilliant.

Thanks a million for all your hard work. Keep safe, and enjoy each day!

  28. I think you have done a massive amount of work and research, on our behalf, over the past 8 years. Thank you for that but trust your instincts if you feel you have had enough, your health comes first. Hopefully us oldies will hang around long enough to see the back of Pacific Quay and the exodus of the vermin that inhabit one particular building there. Good luck, good health Sir and thanks again.

  29. Many thanks , John , for your great work over the past few years . You will be so badly missed .
However , I believe that your insights into the misinformation ( lies ? ) poured forth daily from the media attacking Scotland /SNP / Scottish Government have educated many into seeing past the Headlines and seeking the truth .

    Enjoy your ”retirement ” !
