Away from the march, 21 protesters from Scientist Rebellion who chained themselves together on the King George V Bridge in Glasgow city centre were arrested.
Charlie Gardner, an associate senior lecturer at Durell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, said scientists could not “rely on our leaders to save us anymore” and had a “moral duty to act”.
He tweeted: “Over 15,000 scientists declared that we’re in a climate emergency, but most aren’t acting as if it’s an emergency.
“We’re taking this action to encourage others, scientists and all people, to rise up in rebellion against the system that is killing everything.”
Police Scotland closed the bridge to pedestrians and vehicles during the protest. A spokesperson said: “We have facilitated a peaceful protest, but to balance right to protest with public safety and rights of the wider community, our protest removal team is safely removing protesters.”

He must be disappointed. Image 100 000 British Nationalist marching through the City. Implausible I know but there’d be no arrests at all despite the lynching of anyone out in the ‘wrong’ clothes or hairstyle.

They are really disappointed that all their predictions of chaos are proving wrong and all their attempts to denigrate Scotland, Scottish Government and SNP are being demonstrated as futile fake biased etc

Headline: Nicola Sturgeon urges COP26 protesters to respect Glasgow – BBC News website 29 October. The FM said: “I would ask that people demonstrating show consideration for the city and people who live here.
“The people of Glasgow are opening their city up to the world at what is a difficult time for everybody around the world.
“I hope those who are travelling into the city, welcome though they are, recognise that.”
Early days – only half way through the COP event – but let’s hope as protests continue in Glasgow they do so in the same peaceful manner.

It was a truly joyous occasion , folk from all over the world in a spirit of readiness for change . No wonder yon bawheid Dross was a mite miffed . We were busy on the Pensioners for Indy Stall right next to the impromptu dancing . It felt great to be taking part in this friendly and colourful gathering . We need to reclaim our streets again after the Covid layoff.

It’s been heartwarming to see the pictures on social media of the scale of the AUOB presence in the marching through Glasgow today. (lots of links btl on Wee Ginger Dug.)
The march has received substantial media coverage, including from the BBC and STV’s news websites. The latter in particular mentions a number of participating organisations/interest groups: ‘Socialist groups including the Scottish Socialist Party and International Socialist Alternative’; ‘NGOs including the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), … and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB)’; ‘Trade unionists, politicians and other groups’.
Presumably the large number of folk resident in the country in which the march is occurring (viz. Scotland) and who marched in support both of the aims of other climate protesters as well as the host country’s independence have been reduced to something within the ‘other groups’!
Perhaps the International Socialist Alternative’s presence or the RSPB’s presence really did outnumber AUOB marchers to the extent that the latter were trivial in number and therefore had to be ignored?
And no, the BBC didn’t enlighten its news website’s readers either.

Out of curiosity, as I don’t normally go there, I just looked at the pictures on the EBC website coverage of the march.
Skillful choice of pictures minimises the number of Saltires on display but in my brief look I could NOT see a single butcher’s apron – did nobody get bojo’s email instructing all marchers to wave one??

The BBC gave this march max publicity . . . Lead News article . . . Giving the exact route etc . . . Did it for Sat and Friday’s Young person’s march . . . .
IMHO hoping to replace the youth’s desire to exit the UK with concern for the climate.
IN Scotland the BBC have been beating the Climate drum very loudly for some time!
