The SNP has warned that a vote for Labour is a vote for Boris Johnson and the Tories, after reports that Deputy Leader of Scottish Labour, Jackie Bailie, is “targeting traditional Conservative voters whose support helped her squeeze through in 2016.”
With Labour offering no opposition to the Tories at Westminster and having failed to protect Scotland from Tory cuts, SNP Dumbarton candidate Toni Giugliano said it proved a a vote for Labour is a vote to leave the Tories and Boris Johnson in charge of Scotland’s future – as he challenged Labour to distance itself from what appears to be a Labour-Tory alliance.
SNP candidate for Dumbarton, Toni Giugliano, said:
“At this election, the SNP is offering experienced leadership, ambitious policies to help Scotland move from pandemic to recovery, and a recovery led by a Scottish Government with the interests of the people of Scotland at heart – not a Tory government we didn’t vote for.
“In stark contrast, Scottish Labour is still desperately trying to reunite the Better Together gang which Anas Sarwar played a key role in – even going so far as asking for the Tories’ help – and allow Boris Johnson and his cronies to continue inflicting damaging policies on Scotland
“This Labour-Tory alliance just proves that a vote for Labour is a vote to leave the Tories and Boris Johnson in charge of Scotland’s future, and meekly acquiesce to the Tories’ cuts agenda at Westminster.
“This election is fundamental to what sort of country we want to be. We cannot let the Tories inflict deeper cuts and further austerity on Scotland.
“Only the SNP has the strong leadership to stand up to the Tories, kick-start Scotland’s recovery from Covid and put Scotland’s future in Scotland’s hands – not Boris Johnson’s.”
