In the Herald last night:
Key differences between Nicola Sturgeon’s and Boris Johnson’s administrations during the pandemic has contributed to more trust in Covid guidelines in Scotland than in England, according to an expert adviser. Professor Linda Bauld of Edinburgh University said consistency in messaging from the Scottish Government has meant increased confidence.
Professor Bauld has been saying this kind of thing for some time now but always holds back from stating the obvious – If consistent messaging led to more trust then that will have led in turn to more compliance with lockdown measures and then too fewer infections and, inevitably, fewer deaths.
For some reason she won’t go there even though her blurb suggests that she will outline ‘how effective public messaging had been during the pandemic.
Effective? That means more than just greater trust in the messaging but actions as a result of that great trust.
The evidence of greater compliance is clear in UK Government statistics updated every day:

The death rate in England has been 42% higher. Had the Johnson government managed Scotland’s pandemic control measures, 3 000 more would have died.

We see now a regular report of the Scottish positivity rate from testing. Do such figures exist for the other three nations?

Never shall we see a positivity rate from
English testing who carried out per head of population almost 3 × more tests than
Scotland who test in a very controlled strategic manner in order to ensure track and isolate is a effective weapon in controlling spread
Whilst in England a blind man could see
That testing has very little to do with control
But a matter of pure fiscal gain for those who gave and received the £32.5 Billion
Many a greedy pig has its snout in this trough of plenty

The Tories shut down the pandemic administration to concentrate on Brexit. Despite endless warming of an impending pandemic. The funding was cut. The essential data lost and the organisation cut. An abomination.
The UK Gov responsibility was disbanded. Total incompetence and complacency. The lockdown came 1 month to late. Claiming lives. The airports should have been shut for all but essential travel. They are doing it now 1 year too late. There not enough NHS supplies, The NHS funding had been cut £20Billion from 2015 to 2020. ConDems. Even bigger cuts in real terms, it should have been increased.
ConDems elected to protect NHS and Education cut both. The scandal of PPE contracts going to Gov members and associates. A complete lack of legal scrutiny. An absolute disgrace. Losing £Billions in public monies. The Tories and their associates taking public monies without scrutiny. Killing people.
The Scottish Gov clear rules, guidelines and lockdown has saved people’s lives. Even more people would still be alive without Westminster unionist illegal interference in Scottish matters. The SNHS and the vaccination programme has been exemplary. A triumph for the Scottish people.
The lockdown adhered to and the rules and guidelines followed. Many hardships overcome as people help others. The pandemic coming to an end and being kept under control. A sad distressing time it has been for many people. Thank goodness for the SNHS.and the Scottish Gov guidelines. Many people are now getting back to work gradually. Businesses are reopening. More people getting the jab.It is still and anxious time for many.
Tory sleaze continuing. An absolute disgrace. Lining their pockets on other people’s misery. They will never change. Supporting a system from which they have much to illegally gain. Collusion in corruption. Keeping it secret under the Official Secrets Act. Iraq, Lockerbie, Dunblane kelt secret for 100 years.

The wee cynic inside me muttered in my ear that both English and Scottish governments went some way in achieving their dynamically opposed objectives.
