Douglas Ross accused of being culpable in demise of Scotland’s fishing industry

From SNP Media yesterday:

Douglas Ross has been accused of being culpable in the demise of Scotland’s fishing industry after admitting during the STV Leaders’ Debate that the Tories had ‘not done enough’ for the sector.

The Scottish Tory leader is being urged to issue a full apology to Scotland’s seafood industry after he voted for the rotten Brexit deal that has left it struggling to export produce to mainland Europe.

Since Scotland was dragged out of the EU against its will, Scotland’s fishermen have reported sky-rocketing costs, increased red tape and reduced catch sizes.

The cost of Brexit has not only mounted for the fishing industry but also for Scotland’s exporters and our world-renowned farming and food production firms.

The SNP has provided funding for Scotland’s fisheries to mitigate the worst impacts of Brexit.

Commenting, SNP candidate for Banffshire and Buchan Coast Karen Adam said:

“It is frankly an insult for Scotland’s fisheries to hear Douglas Ross say the Tories have not done enough for the industry – he is culpable as he voted for the rotten Brexit deal that has put them in this situation.

“These industries have been hit by the double-whammy of COVID and Brexit. It was reckless to say the least for the Tories to pursue their Brexit fantasy in the middle of a global pandemic when businesses were struggling already.

“It is not enough for Douglas Ross and the Tories to say they did not do enough – the industry needs action and it needs it now.

“The Tories’ Brexit has left the sector worse off than when we were part of the European Union, and the Single Market and Customs Union. The only way Scotland can return to the top table is with independence and the only way to deliver that is by putting Scotland’s future in Scotland’s hands with Both Votes SNP.”

  1. It puzzles me why SNP keep pushing this both votes SNP, if the SNP win as convincingly as they are predicted too, then a second vote in the regional is a complete waste of time. Knowing the more Constituency seats they get, they will divide the list votes even more, so a second vote SNP lets all the same unionists back in again. Im sorry but I’ll be SNP 1 and ALBA 2. Im sick of voting SNP 2 only to see it do nothing and let idiots like Anne Wells back in.

  2. If I were a Fisherman
I would slap Dross across both jaws
With a large whole wet fish in the form of a Cod
And inform thereafter that is what maybe referred to as Cods Wallop
For real to match the words he utters

  3. DR will get his comeuppance. Looking for two jobs. Already £150,000 in expenses, + salary and perks. Destroying the economy. £Billions have been lost in Scotland because of Tory policies.

The fishermen and others SNP 1 Alba 2. The message is going out in the NE. Support is gathering. Independence is coming and the Tories know it.

Desperation is setting in for DR, RD and his crew. The pathetic, failed management is being realised. The unionists will get voted out of Holyrood. They are a disgrace. 3rd rate listers trying to destroy Holyrood and democracy. People’s democratic rights ignored. Killing people.

  4. The SNP have to promote SNP 1 & 2. It is against electoral rules for representative or elected members to advocate voting for another party. It is illegal for obvious reasons. Gerrymandering. To advocate voting for another party on the same list. Alex Salmond can do it because his Party is only standing on the list.

The D’Hond’t system is corrupt. Introduced by unionists without a mandate. For the sole purpose of no one party getting a majority. For the Scottish Parliament to be always controlled by Westminster unionists.

The huge popularity of SNP Gov has meant it has not worked, but that was the intention. To have 3rd rate losers destroying the Parliament, the economy, and democracy in Scotland.

Scotland outvoted 10 to 1 in Westminster and not being treated equally. The total lack of democracy was what led to the establishment of the Scottish Parliament. The UK would have been thrown out of the EU. The EU/UN principle of self determination and self governance if people vote for it. Scotland will. Demographics. Now the Brexit catastrophe. Already affecting people and the economy, badly.

  5. Scotland’s fishermen (those who supported Brexit) were taken by surprise when the red tape they so despised was replaced by a threefold increase of red, white and blue tape.
The whole point of the EU single market was to ease trade by having common standards and subsequent common regulations.
There is no point in chasing fantasy unrestricted quotas if your market has disappeared under a pile if tape.
Dross and his party are guilty of either deliberately misleading their constituency or failing to understand the consequences of their actions and probably both.
They should not be in charge of a fish shop, let alone a country.
