Jackson Carlaw claims credit for getting Scotland’s contact tracing teams fully staffed and up to ‘world beating’ standards

There’s only two weeks to go. You’ll never make it! This is where you see the benefits of Serco.

Two weeks ago, Jackson Carlaw feared the worst for the people of Scotland:

All Jackson’s efforts pushing those lazy SNP folk has now paid off:

In Herald yesterday:

THE SCOTTISH Government has now reached its target of recruiting 2,000 contact tracers as Nicola Sturgeon refuted claims that pressure is being put on health boards to roll out the test and protect strategy.  Speaking at her daily briefing, the First Minister said that Scotland now has “more than a pool of 2,000 across the country” who will act as contact tracers as lockdown restrictions are eased.

Let’s hear it for Jackson!

Ah, no, I can’t really print that.

I dread to think where we’d have been without him. Mind you I don’t suppose our wee system is world-beating like the English one Boris promised. How IS that going?

  1. “Ah, no, I can’t really print that.”

Admirable restraint there, John, specially now that we’ve all been told by Dominic and Boris to FO and apparently have….

  2. “David Bol’s” to you, Carlot.

Its getting like the Scottish Labour party now.
Each new Leader is palpably worse than the one before–McCletchie, Bella, Ruthie, Carlot—whose next?
Bools in his mooth, Miles? Hardly miles better, what?

And that’s without referencing Westminster’s bag carrier and dancing poodle—Mundell, and now bridge/tunnel/zip wire “Union” Jack. Two bigger non-entities it would be hard to find. No doubt they will find someone even less suitable when Jack jacks it in (with a bit of help from the electorate).

  3. Nothing in the Scottish media – print and broadcast – about the fact that the appropriate numbers of testers have been put in place.

The Herod selectively quotes from a Glasgow GP, who praised the efforts of the SG, but pointed out that the current tests have ‘false positives’ and that this must be taken aware of. It was a constructive comment alerting people to treat the data with appropriate caution. They present her cautionary statement with no context, implying with sleekit innuendo that what is being done is a waste of time and money.

In England here are over 25 000 testers who started contacting c2300 people yesterday – i.e. 11 testers per person – and then we are told that the system will not be fully operational until early June. Nothing about that in the Herod.

  4. There is no great confidence among those polled that the TTI done by the UK government will be “world beating”.

“Polling carried out exclusively for the Evening Standard by Portland found only a minority think Britain will have a world-beating system.

Some 35 per cent thought it would be ineffective, compared with 26 per cent who thought it would be effective. And 39 per cent expected it to be merely “average”.

The nationwide testing programme has been massively stepped up from a mere 10,000 a day in March to 100,000 by the end of April, following an astonishing drive led by Health Secretary Matt Hancock. Mr Johnson then promised to hit 200,000 a day, pushing the system into overdrive so that full contact tracing would be made possible to launch. However, critics say the figures issued daily for tests carried out are sometimes inflated by double-counting, with some people tested twice on the same day, and by test kits posted to residential care homes being counted as carried out when issued, rather than when swabs have been sent back.”

  5. I think Scotland may have some difficulty matching the “world beating” test, track and trace (isolate?) of the UK government. The Guardian has a piece about the comprehensive training given and received. This from a trainee.

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/may/30/boris-johnsons-test-and-tracing-system-britain-lockdown

“After the Dominic Cummings story broke I started hearing more media stories about the track-and-trace programme. Health secretary Matt Hancock claimed that “highly trained track-and-trace staff” were in place. I still had not seen the government system we were supposed to use.

Over the next few days I learned more about my job from watching the news than I did from those who were supposed to supervise me. I still did not feel qualified to do it. Then it was announced by Hancock that we were going live the next day. On my chat there was a message from a supervisor asking the more experienced members of our chat to help those who needed help. The blind leading the blind! How were people who started the same day as me, and who had the same short and basic training as I had, supposed to help me do my job?”

  10. Jackson should be very careful in the use of World Beating phrasing
Because England have well and truly lifted the World cup for a 2 nd time
But stamped upon it is For achieving the most deaths / million of population
It is up to us in Scotland to remind them of
    Their momentous achievement in 2020
Just like they went on about 1966 win
They are a 3rd rate Nation and now a pariah state their ship is sinking
    Time to man the lifeboats
Oh sorry Jackson but your destiny is to go down with SS Ship of Fools
You are NOT allowed to desert your posting

  11. Carlaw needs to take a chill pill. He just opens his big gob about the SNP. I hope the Scottish electorate never forget the decimation done by Margaret Thatchers tory government they were instrumental in crippling many of Scotland communities and closing much of its key industries.

  12. Scotland will never reach its potential as long as people obsess about England and how well/badly we are doing against it. How are we doing vs Germany? Australia? New Zealand? ( the country the Growth Commission wants us to be like.
There is a big wide world out there. Lift your eyes! Fill in your shoulder chips! Yer PATHETIC!
