The Health Secretary’s three limp accusers do not impress us

Bibby, Briggs and Cole-Hamilton

These are the three men deeply unimpressive yet with a good conceit of themselves, who yesterday felt able to suggest the Health Secretary had lost the confidence of the public.

Her crime, resulting in this supposed loss of public confidence, to have in the beginnings of a pandemic, authorised the transfer of elderly patients from acute care in hospitals into care homes, designed to better care for them in the light of their particular conditions and to free-up space in acute care, so that it would not be overwhelmed by a feasible surge in covid-19 cases.

No one, certainly no Labour, Tory or Lib Dem MSP, questioned the strategy at the time. It was done with the very best of intentions, guided by expert advice and in the public interest. It is, frankly, sickening to see these inexperienced, self-centred men attempt to remove a health secretary, former nurse, who has led NHS Scotland into a position of superiority in performance, across almost every aspect of treatment and care, over all other health services in the UK.

Imagine, really, one of these specimens as Health Secretary? Any one of them would be resigning, broken men, within weeks, to be replaced by another, no less useless, from the drained and toxic waters of the ‘talent pool’ in their parties.

As for the suggestion that Freeman has lost the confidence of the public, there is of course, no direct evidence, either way. However, were she to be so unpopular, surely that would transfer to affect approval ratings for the First Minister and the Party.

With poll approval for the First Minister at over 70% but only at 7% and 6% for the leaders of the Tory and Labour groups and with the Lib Dem leader not counted at all, we see limited evidence for their claim.

With support for the SNP at 50% to 54%, around 25% and 15% for Tories and Labour, and with the LIb Dems in one poll at 1% (!), Freeman is clearly not toxic for her Party.

Get me some Pepto-Bismol™!

    1. Mr Bibby was one of these accidental MSPs.

In the 2007 Scottish Parliament elections, Labour lost many constituencies which it had held since 1998 and which had been Labour in Westminster elections for decades. So, arrogant was Labour in taking the electorate for granted that most of its constituency candidates did not even bother putting their names on the regional lists, so sure were they of being returned as usual.

So, when they failed to come first in the constituency, they were OUT. Labour’s representation in Parliament came largely from the list and most of the candidates on the list were seen by their constituency parties as ‘no hopers’ and were there, literally, to make up the numbers to fill the quota. And, unexpectedly, many of them found themselves as MSPs and were wholly unprepared for Parliament. Some had not even had the benefit of being Councillors. They were accidental MSPs.

In 2012, the former MSPs were on the lists and as near the top as possible, so that, expecting to fail in the constituencies they would get in on the list. Some of the accidental MSPs refused to stand down and Labour policy meant they had to be at the top of the list.

It was Labour who set up the SP electoral system.

      1. Pound to a penny never ever in their nefarious scheming whist setting up the rules for Holyrood elections did the cabal
Of delusional colonists envisage ending up with a situation of a majority of pro indy MSP,s with such a bunch of list ones that nobody new or were worthy of their seat as a credible opposition
Merely exposing their uselessness as time goes by.
Which in turn only leads to a ever increasing majority of pro Indy ones
Oh how what webs they weave in order to deceive
But forgot that the plans of men and mice (list MSP,s) aften gone aglay
Hell mend them at the 2021 election

  2. Pedantry alert! The Scots phrase, ‘a guid conceit o yersel’ is something praiseworthy. Someone so described has shown her or himself to have been competent and is justified in feeling satisfied by that. You, for example, are entitled to hold such a view of yourself with regard to this site.

The three MSPs named have no track record of competence, but are smug in their petty ignorance. The correct word to describe them is ‘arseholes’.

      1. Another Scots phrase in the same area of meaning is ‘pride o’ worth’. I think it was Burns who coined it. It is the motto of the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

  3. The Tories have been very successful in suppressing the virus statistics in England but not so good on the actual virus itself,as a result of investing in spin rather than medical doctors.
This has allowed their representatives here in Scotland, along with their fellow British Labour and Liberals,to attack the Scottish government’s record.
However, the vast majority of Scots are beginning to see through their political posturing and have made their own minds up about whose advice they intend to follow.
People in NI have likewise decided to ignore what London says.
The global laughing stock is not Scotland which was, apart from Trump, well thought of for our stance on Brexit and Covid19.
This is not going to end well for the representatives of England’s political parties here in Scotland and judging by their recent outburts, they are fully aware of that fact.

Out blurt: out-blurt. A new way to say… blurt it out.

Its a good description of the “Three Amigos” and the incoherent verbiage ejaculating from their empty heads.
