Why NHS England tried to grab all the PPE? SHOCK as ‘Hospitals across England to run out of supplies of protective garments within hours’

This is not gloating.

In the Guardian only 45 minutes ago:

NHS bosses have asked doctors and nurses to work without protective full-length gowns when treating Covid-19 patients, as hospitals came within hours of running out of supplies. The guidance is a reversal of Public Health England (PHE) guidelines stipulating that full-length waterproof surgical gowns, designed to stop coronavirus droplets getting into someone’s mouth or nose, should be worn for all high-risk hospital procedures. In a significant U-turn, PHE advised frontline staff to wear a flimsy plastic apron with coveralls when gowns ran out, in a move that doctors and nurses fear may lead to more of them contracting the virus and ultimately putting lives at risk. The PHE announcement on Friday evening came shortly after the planned move was revealed by the Guardian.

People all across the UK need to see what happens when you trust the Conservative and Unionist Party to look after the NHS.

In England, over the last decade, they have under-funded, interfered in pursuit of supposed efficiencies and acted on behalf of the private healthcare corporations they themselves benefit from.

People in England have seen a failed A&E service no longer even trying to hit targets. They’ve seen numerous hospitals fail inspections and horrific scandals with multiple deaths among the newborn and among the elderly. They’ve seen care homes fail on infection control. They saw last winter hundreds of wards closed due to Norovirus outbreaks in hospitals with outsourced cleaning and catering.

None of the above has been allowed to happen in NHS Scotland.

Despite this much of the English media have remained silent, beyond the Guardian, the Independent and sometimes BBC UK.

In Scotland, our predominantly Unionist media have struggled desperately to convert minor incidents into wider crises.

In the last month, we’ve seen just what NHS Scotland can do, even under extreme pressure, keeping coronavirus deaths in our hopsitals to a level only half that in NHS England. To dare to mention this has been condemned as somehow tasteless or gloating by those unavoidably linked to the UK politicians directly responsible for what is happening in England. Their motives are clear.

  2. “In Scotland, our predominantly Unionist media have struggled desperately to convert minor incidents into wider crises.” – this is true, but you could have added that they also determinedly avoid reporting things which show the union or the UK or England failing.

    1. Yes and they are going to need a very large brush and carpet to lift and sweep all the dust that shall surely settle as their downright incompetence creates such dust
And oh they shall require the use of a most heavy dynamic roller to flatten the dust bump
Or should i say flatten the curve
No race of people deserve this
It is the 1st and prime duty and responsibility of any government to protect their citizens FULL STOP

    1. Aye!!That wull be right. They don’t want to receive an OFFER, because that puts them in a supplicant position. So they simply TAKE the PPE,which was what they had intended to do until Dr MacAskill revealed their perfidy.

      1. To be fair the same report that contained the instruction to named distributors/manufacturers to supply Care Homes registered with the Care Commission which operates only in England thus excluding Scotland, Wales and NI from that source of supply also stated further on in the report that 20,000,000 pieces of PPE would be made available to Scotland, Wales and NI. A paper promise perhaps?
The relevant section of the report on PPE published on 10th April:

        “”TAKING A UK WIDE APPROACH
1.52 It is vital that we meet this challenge as four united nations. At every step of the way we have ensured that we have worked side by side with the devolved nations and we have set up a weekly four nations PPE oversight board to manage demand and supply.
1.53 Each of the Devolved Administrations has their own supply chain operation for PPE and is responsible for ensuring distribution within Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
1.54 We are working closely with colleagues in the devolved nations to ensure supplies of PPE are distributed equitably across the four nations . In the past week, we have authorised the release of nearly 20 million items of PPE to the devolved nations to address immediate shortages of specific items and we continue to work closely with the Devolved Administrations to meet the need for PPE across the whole of the UK.
1.55 However, it is recognised that, in particular circumstances, Devolved Administrations are also pursuing their own sourcing of PPE to meet their particular needs.””

The UK Gov has, on paper at least, provided PPE to the devolved nations thus they hope covering their backsides. But so much of what the UK Gov says never ever comes to pass. It also raises the question about what sources of PPE (para 1.55) are open to the devolved nations if the UK Gov has stopped the major distributors/manufacturers from supplying them?

Look carefully at some of the wording in the report and you realise it is very similar, if not identical, to the statement by Gompels. Interesting. Raises the question: who wrote Gompels’ statement? I doubt they would have read that far into the report if they even read the report.

Their BIAS in favour of the SNP during the pandemic
My oh My the tories are getting really rattled now and only because they are waking up to the fact that Scotland SHALL completely outperform UK in our stoic response to this pandemic
Me thinks their heavy cavalry has just run into our chiltern

  4. Further to Ledger wood’s post. How does para 1.38 of the DHSC directive within the PPE SUPPLY STRATEGY sit with a four nation approach when it explicitly excludes non English (CQC Registered) settings from accessing PPE. When it was available Gompel’s website showed that there was a block to Scotland and Wales on orders for gloves, aprons and a particular mask type. The very PPE being sought by our Care Sector.
Hancock rightly said that no block had been applied by NHS or PHE.
Freeman swallowed this assurance. What Hancock failed to admit was that it was his own DHSC that had issued the dictat to suppliers.
