Reality Check: Scotland’s schools providing more teacher support for all pupils

From Teacher Census Supplementary Statistics, published yesterday, we can see that the average ratio of pupils to teachers in Scottish schools has remained at 13.6 to 1 in 2019 and for the previous two years, slightly better than 13.7 to 1 in the previous three years to that.

Figures for England in 2019 do not seem to be available yet but in 2018 the rate was 16.5 pupils for every teacher. In Wales the the ratio was even worse at 18.7 to 1 and in Northern Ireland 18.2 to 1.

  1. Never mind teachers – I’ve just heard on the radio that on the 2nd of April – tomorrow at 8pm there is going to be a ‘Piping for the NHS’ event where all pipers are going to play Scotland the Brave from their house – if you live next door, get your earplugs looked out!

    1. 🙂

me too, I like a bit of piping – raises the spirits!

Oh! in other news, just listening to Nicola Sturgeon announcement for today – she has, at last, mentioned the testing hubs, and assessment centres. Top stuff to really get a system working.

I still wish they’d focus on testing testing testing, and contact tracing rather than getting ICU beds ready even though that’s essential too – people don’t spring out of bed ready after recovering, there can be long term health problems after, we really need people to not get that ill in the first place & I still haven’t found any research into why some people fall very ill (apart from ‘underlying health issues’ – that’s not the only reason).
