Cole-Hamilton reveals more good news as alcohol-related ambulance call-outs plummet

In Holyrood on Monday, Alex Cole-Hamilton asked how many Scottish Ambulance Service callouts were alcohol-related, in each of the last four years.

Cole-Hamilton had mistimed his question by a whole year. While the number had been climbing to 2018, it fell dramatically in 2019, from 31 009 to 28 451, more than 8%.

Cole-Hamilton has helpfully prompted another reminder of progress in reducing the harm caused by alcohol:

Scotland only UK nation where the alcohol-related death rate dropped this century

Ludo Thierry Hi all. Beeb Scotland did carry this piece reporting ONS figures on the very encouraging drop in alcohol related death rates in Scotland this century – but it was a case of ‘blink and you missed it’. I’d noticed it yesterday early evening and had to search hard for it today by lunchtime!Continue reading “Scotland only UK nation where the alcohol-related death rate dropped this century”Posted byjohnrobertson834Posted inUncategorized3 Commentson Scotland only UK nation where the alcohol-related death rate dropped this centuryEditScotland only UK nation where the alcohol-related death rate dropped this century

NHS Scotland beats drug and alcohol treatment target for three years and Reporting Scotland ignores it for the same period

From the NHS Scotland Information Services Division yesterday: The Scottish Government set a standard that 90% of people referred for help with their drug or alcohol problem will wait no longer than three weeks for treatment that supports their recovery. The quarterly trend for Scotland as a whole over the past three years shows littleContinue reading “NHS Scotland beats drug and alcohol treatment target for three years and Reporting Scotland ignores it for the same period”Posted byjohnrobertson834Posted inUncategorized2 Commentson NHS Scotland beats drug and alcohol treatment target for three years and Reporting Scotland ignores it for the same periodEditNHS Scotland beats drug and alcohol treatment target for three years and Reporting Scotland ignores it for the same period

  1. Good news for Scotland–why BBC Scotland supress it. Not so good for the Brit Nits who opposed the policy.

What’s that I see in the picture?
A wumin in Wee Wullie’s Boys Brigade? Tut, tut!

  2. Some day, somehow, there has to be a day of reckoning for the racist BBC, the manipulations they make and the half truths they indulge in for the Unionist agenda against the interests of the Scottish people. They are Westminster’s biggest propaganda machine.

    1. Yes les, the devolution settlement should have incorporated scottish controlled
Broadcasting (as they have in Catalunya)
Which is actually impartial (the BBC
      Charter speaks of impartiality…bullshit!)

  3. For anyone needing a break from the endless ‘unprecedented’ situation of a pandemic (if anyone can answer me how something for which there was planning in place can be unprecedented – given that pandemics have happened before – I will remove any apostrophes from around ‘unprecedented’ – I just feel it’s being a bit overused rather than it being totally inaccurate though), please read Craig Murray’s blog on the Alex Salmond trial; despite his own admitted prejudices he gives a fair assessment of the court and gives us a lot more detail and context than you might get elsewhere:

His court reporting is really rather good – his reports on the Assange trial were good and I’m glad he can now follow the Salmond trial.

Did you see that Ian Blackford has asked Boris (in PMs questions) to bring in universal basic income for the duration – it needs the UK government to establish it – and I do hope that happens, I think it will be something that could save the economy, and ourselves, from crashing. And yes, it is affordable, though unprecedented.

    2. Oh yes, good shout Gavin, that’s the ‘Alex Salmond Fit Up’ piece from before the trial – I re-read it just after the start of the trial and it really does put a lot of things into context. Definitely worth a read.

(And for anyone wondering about a focus on something other than viruses, please read the piece below on ways to cope with anxiety – some amount of distraction is GOOD for you. Indulge yourself)

  4. And for anyone (most people??) who is finding the anxiety overwhelming and don’t have coping strategies worked out, here is one man’s list of how he copes with generalised anxiety disorder – you always need to find your own ways to cope, of course, but this is a good way to find some pointers and realise that we can all edge down that anxiety route when put under too much pressure, we all must keep the fear in check and keep living the best we can:
