Aberdeen’s Bitter Together Council attempts to scrape sex offender off its collective shoe

Ludo Thierry Now that former Aberdeen City cooncillor Ross Thompson is at a bit of a loose end can’t help but wonder whether the Bitter Together coalition at Aberdeen City Council will put him up in the seemingly inevitable(?) by-election following former tory councillor Alan Donnelly’s court conviction for sexual assault? – The former Bitter Together Depute Provost Donnelly seems to be hingin’ oan fur dear life – but the Bitter Together coalition are now trying to scrape him aff their collective footwear – Even if he does hing oan it looks as if the Committees will have to be … Continue reading Aberdeen’s Bitter Together Council attempts to scrape sex offender off its collective shoe

WRONG! NO EVIDENCE but Prof Pennington is prepared to say anything to damage those threatening his precious Union

The Scotsman headline is completely inaccurate and misleading as well as, once more implying direct responsibility, for any event in a Scottish hospital, to the SNP Health Secretary. Let me be clear. Not one of the much-publicised deaths of children and babies in Scottish hospitals has been BECAUSE of an infection. They have all died BECAUSE of prematurity or of a cancer, and an infection, PERHAPS hospital acquired, may have been a contributory factor. None of the infections discovered has been proven to have come from the water supply in the hospitals. Until, the recent case of the boy on … Continue reading WRONG! Interests of Scotland’s fisheries ‘buried’ by Norway/EU deal done by ‘United’ Kingdom minister

Robert Goodwill, Minister for Agriculture and managing director of Mowthorpe burials company From the Scottish Government: Fisheries Secretary Fergus Ewing has expressed disappointment at the outcome of fishery negotiations between Norway and the European Union, which have concluded after a third round of talks in Brussels. A significant 50% cut in the North Sea cod quota for 2020 was agreed, reflecting scientific advice on declining numbers. Mr Ewing said: “A cut of this size will be very challenging for Scottish fishing businesses. We recognise the need to manage fish stocks sustainably, necessitating a substantial reduction, but it is regrettable that … Continue reading Interests of Scotland’s fisheries ‘buried’ by Norway/EU deal done by ‘United’ Kingdom minister

Scottish Government spends at lease £250 million on flood defences in last 5 years

From a Freedom of Information request reported yesterday: I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested. The list covers formal flood protection schemes completed in the previous five years. While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have all of the information you have requested. Under the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009, flood protection schemes can now proceed without formal approval from Scottish Ministers so there may be other schemes that have been taken forward and completed by local authorities which the Scottish Government does not hold information … Continue reading Scottish Government spends at lease £250 million on flood defences in last 5 years

Against Tory brutality: The kind of country we voted against becoming?

There’s a story that Reporting Scotland’s or the Herald’s oh-so-concerned health correspondents might tell us. In the Independent today, this shocking news: Tory measures to stop “health tourism” on the NHS have been linked to the deaths of three pregnant women in a major report that was delayed until after the election. The women all died after delays in seeking help because they mistakenly believed that they would have to pay for care under the government’s strict charging regime. They sought help in hospitals too late and died as a result of complications. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/nhs-report-delayed-until-after-election-reveals-pregnant-women-died-because-of-mistaken-fears-they-a9245966.html I wrote about this in September, … Continue reading Against Tory brutality: The kind of country we voted against becoming?

Second home ownership plunges by a third in Scotland as it soars elsewhere, hitting young people

In June, BBC Business reported: The number of British people who own a second home, buy-to-let or overseas property has doubled since 2001, says think tank the Resolution Foundation. While the number of millennials who own a home continues to fall, one in 10 people now own an additional property. Just 37% of people born in the 1980s managed to buy a home at the age of 29, compared with half of those born in the 1960s. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-48637484 Meanwhile in Scotland: The owning of second homes has declined by just more than a third in eight years, according to new … Continue reading Second home ownership plunges by a third in Scotland as it soars elsewhere, hitting young people

South of Scotland Tories serve their constituents badly

Ludo Thierry: Thanks to TaxResearch UK blog for directing me to some interesting stats put together by the High Pay Centre. This uses EU data to identify the UK regions with below 75% of average EU GDP. Of the 7 areas identified in the UK one is located in Scotland – it is the South of Scotland region. Who has been representing this South of Scotland area in Westminster? Both Fluffy Mundell and Alistair ‘Union’ Jack draw handsome salaries for ‘representing ‘ the South of Scotland at Westminster. ‘Union’ Jack is a dyed in the wool brexiteer. Fluffy swore to … Continue reading South of Scotland Tories serve their constituents badly

Something wicked this way comes. Run Scotland run and don’t look back!

More than three years ago, I wrote this. Looking back, we can see steps toward Johnson’s Tory putsch: Though BBC Scotland are sheltering them, the Scottish Tories need to reject some of their nasty English pals to avoid sharing the Nazi comparisons Image: heraldscotland.com October 10th 2016 ‘The Conservative Party’s conference has unleashed ugly and downright scary rhetoric that I was brought up to believe was to be left in the past. I am not exaggerating when I say that the policies being brought forward are reminiscent of early 1930s Nazi Germany.’ These are the words of SNP MP Mhairi Black, … Continue reading Something wicked this way comes.
