Thanks to K McEwan for alerting us to this.
From BBC Tyne on 14 October 2026, the above and:
The NHS has confirmed work on a new hospital will have to be redone. Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust said the new Berwick Community Hospital will need to be stripped back to its structural steelwork after inspections found building work carried out so far was not up to standard. New contractors Robertson have been working with the trust to determine what will need to be done for the scheme to progress – additional costs to the £35m project are currently unknown.
I was born in Duns, only 15 miles away, and several of my relatives, including my dad and his big brother, were ‘in the building trade’ but we deny all knowledge of this.
Anyhow, as K suggested to me – Imagine this was a Scottish health board?
Tom Young, whose house backs onto the new hospital build said living beside the construction site was a “nightmare” and felt the building should be torn down.
“It’s rotten to the core,” he told the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
“It’s a national scandal, but it’s a personal anguish.
‘National scandal eh? The Health Secretary for all of England and the local MP will have something to say.

What did they say? Nothing – BBC Tyne say they don’t want to bother them. Busy, important people.
Has any Scottish public building contract ever required such a rebuild as this?
No publicly reported Scottish public building contract matches the scale or nature of the Berwick Community Hospital remedial works.
