Serving police officers suspended over allegations of violence against women and girls are 70% more common per head in England & Wales than in Scotland

From BBC Scotland yesterday:

Police Scotland has said 45 serving officers are currently suspended over allegations of violence against women and girls. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqe9l0r105l8o

There are currently 16 402 FTE police officers in Scotland, 11 036 male. 45 of them, 0.4% are suspended facing investigation.

What percentage of the Scottish adult male population in Scotland is charged with a domestic abuse crime?

34 586 charges in an adult male population of 2.17 million last year, is 1.4%, more than 3 times as many.

The average adult Scottish male is 3 times as likely to commit a domestic abuse offence as the average Scottish police officer. Still not good enough

So, the usual calculation – With 12 times the population, all things being equal you might expect England & Wales to have around 540 serving officers currently suspended over allegations of violence against women and girls.

In 2025 (latest figures) it was 923, 71% more.
