Europe far more enthusiastic about Scotland returning to EU than about England/UK

Today, from Geo All Day, this map below:

A small but high-profile group of European countries has publicly welcomed the possibility of the United Kingdom eventually re-joining the European Union. The debate returned in late September 2026 after UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Britain should reconsider its long-term relationship with the EU, with options ranging from closer economic ties to full membership. https://www.facebook.com/geoallday

Is that all? Make that ‘Scotland’ instead of ‘UK’ and get the map at the top, and:

A YouGov EuroTrack survey published in July 2025 found majorities in the five EU countries polled would support an independent Scotland joining the EU: Denmark 75%, Germany 68%, Spain 65%, Italy 64%, and France 63%. Opposition in those countries was low (about 6–13%). In Britain the figure was 46% support and 32% opposition. https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/52524-europeans-would-welcome-an-independent-scotland-into-the-eu

Individual politicians, not governments, have been more positive. Former European Council president Donald Tusk said in 2020 that “everyone will be enthusiastic” in Brussels about Scotland returning, and some German parliamentarians made supportive remarks after the 2016 referendum. Campaign groups have also collected pledges from MEPs across several countries. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/scotland-keir-starmer-yougov-brexit-britons-b2789188.html

You’ve only got to look at the Eurovision Song Contest scores to see we’d be a far more popular return after Paulo Nutini does a version of Caledonia or Lust for Life.
