From rtpscott today, in Talking-up Scotland:
Speaking about papers there is a picture of the UK in the Sunday (Yoon) Paper today which is more or less brushing Scotland out.
The GMB‘s Rhea Wolfson or the Sunday Post‘s Derek Healey are by no means obvious candidates for the accusation of being anti-Scotland, so I have to think they did not see the graphic before it ‘went to press.’ I have to think Belfast-born editor Thomas Hawkins did.
When you see this diminishing of Scotland, you may be reminded of the recent UN rejection of world maps projecting, especially, Africa as far smaller than it is and the European imperial states as far larger than they are.
The claim that the distortion is a colonial instrument, and that it has damaged northern attitudes to Africa, comes mainly from Arno Peters. In 1973 he presented the Gall–Peters equal-area projection as the morally correct alternative and described Mercator as Eurocentric, visually subordinating the global South. The campaign was taken up by church groups, development magazines, some UNESCO-linked educational material, and later by school districts in the USA (Boston and Massachusetts from 2017; a Nebraska requirement from 2024).
World Map Mercator:

World Map Gall-Peters showing truer size of Africa and Europe

So if the above distortion is a colonial instrument that has damaged northern attitudes to Africa, and that equal-area projection is morally correct, why is the Sunday Post version and the BBC Weather version, above, not visually subordinating Scotland.
What then might be the effect on an electorate?
None, according AI after a prolonged argument!

European imperialists have a long dark history of lying about their targets for exploitation. The problem in Scotland is it has been normalised for so long most people don’t notice. Good to point it out at every instance.

Of course, it has an effect, although that is amplified by centuries of deliberately demeaning Scotland and anything Scottish from Samuel Johnson to Neil Oliver.

I mean when they have the map of their UK titled like that so Scotland, (the head and brains) looks tiny, I just can’t help thinking they are just showing the a*se of their UK. Sorry I know that’s very childish 🙂

Tory HQ Puppet , the irrelevant Russell Findlay, has been mouthing of again on his favourite subject, Scottish independence.
The BBC (of course) have an article where it states:
“Scottish Tory leader Findlay says SNP’s indy ‘obsession’ is dangerously irresponsible”.
Well one could say that Russell Findlay, as a Tory, has an obsession with the UK State and that is, for Scotland , a position that is “dangerously irresponsible”.
Apparently “Findlay told the Conservative Party’s UK conference that while the United Kingdom continues to face “grave threats” from China, Russia and Iran, a divided UK would be “a gift to our enemies”.
(While the UK state is what ? A source of strength and Unity ? I mean what currently is generating most of the division within the UK State ? Would that be the toxic and divisive rhetoric and policies endorsed and so then promoted by the Tory party ?)
As to China , Russia & Iran ?
I mean it is the UK State that puts us , Scotland, at risk with housing Trident here within Scotland.
It is also the UK State who allowed American bombers to fly from a UK base to bomb Iran and it was former Tory UK governments who were criticised in the Russian Report for their “lack of action from the Tory governments, for failing to investigate possible Russian interference in the Scottish independence and Brexit referendums”.
As to China well in 2015 it was reported that “The Tory PM David Cameron and Tory Chancellor George Osborne pursued a “golden era” of UK-China relations, welcoming billions in Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) into energy and transport within the UK” – or rather certain infrastructure within England.
Russell Findlay’s Tory partisan version is one that seeks to blame the SNP as being the only risk to safety and security within the UK State.
Findlay also mentioned that the “Scottish government were also giving the green light to chancers and crooks”.
Well I would suggest that when it comes to “Chancers & Crooks” the Tory party were those who were “giving the green light” to PPE fraud.
That is in respect to those newly formed PPE companies being awarded a bulk of of PPE contracts by the friends of Tories, families of Tories and also via referrals from Tory Peers via the Tory PPE VIP Fast Track lane, now that was a masterclass in who were the real “Chancers & Crooks” within UK politics at that time.
Watch ITV’s ‘The Covid Contracts: Follow The Money’ now on YouTube (watch and listen to what a well established ad experienced PPE company owner said, in that they had reached out to the Tory UK government to offer their PPE but they were ignored).
“A high-priority “VIP lane” gave political connections a 13 times higher probability of contract success“
“VIP-lane contracts failed at three times the standard rate and cost roughly 80% more per unit“
“Anti-corruption groups and the Covid Counter fraud Commissioner highlighted that systemic weaknesses and lack of transparency allowed cronyism and high corruption risks to affect over £15 billion in public contracts”
Findlay also said “the Scottish Tories would launch a Benefit Fraud Bill to help recover overpayments”
I take it then that he supports that all of the PPE contracts (via the Tory VIP Fat Track lane) where the PPE was found to be not fit for purpose – well those payments should also now be recovered.
He also said, on Benefit overpayments, that “We will demand taxpayers’ get their money back, instead of just asking nicely”
Will taxpayers get their money back from the flawed and failed Test & Trace system in England that cost taxpayers billions that was mismanaged by the Tory Peer Dido Harding ?
Will tax payers also get their money back from the not fit for purpose PPE sourced from newly formed companies (referred by Tory politicians) who then failed to produce the suitable equipment that they were contracted to supply to the NHS ?
Findlay also said on overpayments of Benefits (in Scotland) that “Overpayments could be taken directly from bank accounts, as happens elsewhere in the UK”
So I guess then that the same should happen re PPE money that was awarded to companies who produced shoddy and unfit PPE during Covid.
He then said that “Driving licences could be confiscated if refunds are not forthcoming. Our law would double the maximum sentence for benefit fraud to 10 years”
What sentence and penalties should be given to the (still) Tory Peer Michelle Mone , and also to the Tory government Ministers who enabled her to get the PPE contract for a newly formed company that she referred to the Tory VIP Fast Track system , that as PPE , was totally unfit for purpose ?
I cannot remember Findlay nor his Tory branch office having any interest in demanding that the UK government should “launch” a Covid PPE contract “Fraud Bill”.
Findlay’s main job as a branch office manager in Scotland is to deflect attention away from all of S**** his HQ party did in the past and all of the S**** they intend to do in the future, he does this by criticising the SNP in blaming them as the source of all division and dissent within the UK State.
Findlay seems to expect us in Scotland to completely ignore all of the hate and division generated by an incompetent and unnecessary Tory Brexit policy and also all of the hate and division caused by those British Nationalists who are in agreement with the Tory party’s policy on immigration and immigrants to the UK State.
It’s actually Russell Findlay who is the political “Chancer” in him ignoring some of the “Crooks” that got taxpayers money thanks to his Tory party during the Covid pandemic.
Though it seems that for Russell Findlay he will never surrender his staunch support for his Tory party or for his UK State, he does that by trying to shift all of the blame and responsibility for all of the UK’s woes onto mostly the SNP , just to try to avoid any accountability being attached to or associated with (the real culprits), his Tory party.
That’s just Russell Findlay ‘Playing Politics’ , very badly (that’s what you get when you allow an ex member of the gutter press to play at being a minor politician).
