The Herald posted the above yesterday, mainly I suspect , because the video they attached to their post was of a UK politician , Wendy Chamberlain, highlighting this in the HOC.

I suspect that she, Chamberlain, only raised it in the HOC as she has certain Distilleries within her constituency which could be impacted with this below announcement. I also suspect that had she not had any distilleries in her constituency then, as a Lib Dem MP elected in Scotland , she probably would not have even bothered to mention it all as an issue for Scotland) ?

I also again suspect that pressure has obviously been applied to her via the various distilleries within her constituency to get her to raise this in the HOC.

The post via The Herald stated this:

“The UK Government has been accused of sneaking out a decision that could undermine one of Scotland’s most treasured exports, after English whisky was granted geographical indication (GI) status with a ‘single malt’ definition”.

The Labour UK government had posted this below on their government website 4 days ago – on 11 September.

“English Whisky raises a glass to new protected status”

“English Whisky has secured protected Geographical Indication (GI) status, a major milestone for a sector that has grown from a handful of pioneering producers into one of England’s most exciting food and drink success stories”

“English Whisky now joins Scotch, Welsh and Irish whiskies as a recognised and protected whisky category, showcasing the breadth, qualities and innovation of whisky production across the United Kingdom”

However something was omitted from this announcement from the UK government on the distinction of English single malt whisky achieving this protected Geographical Indication (GI) status.

As according to Wendy “on Friday evening at 5pm , Defra announced that it approved the English Whisky Guilds application for English whisky to receive Geographical Indication (GI) status despite objections from the Scotch, Welsh and Irish Whisky (whiskey) Associations”.

She also noted that for English Whisky “the definition, English single malt whisky requires only distillation at a single distillery, rather than for all the stages of production to take place at a single site” (as is required for Scotch single malt).

She noted that “the term single malt whisky carries a long established reputation and meaning for consumers. It risks disadvantaging Scotch producers who have invested heavily to comply with the traditional single site production model” (which she then noted included distilleries in her constituency) .

In other words they, the UK government, have been accused of “watering down” the definition of single malt after granting geographical indication (GI) status to English whisky.

This is yet another example of Labour , this time again as the UK government, batting for England while being cavalier with the established and respected produce/drinks/Industry etc via the other nations within the UK State.

So really are those still undecided people in Scotland not yet prepared to finally wake up and see what is really happening within the UK State with various UK political parties as UK governments.

That is where we always now read and hear that industry etc in England is being saved , invested in and so then promoted .

While elsewhere within the UK State other nations industry are being abandoned , neglected and so then seeing a lack of investment and support by various UK governments , especially those industries within Scotland.

I think perhaps this Labour UK government have become drunk with power , more so with the fact that they won 37 seats in the 2024 UK GE in Scotland- obviously they have translated that ‘victory’ to mean that they see Scots , and all others living within Scotland, as all being gullible and compliant MUGS. (hence they, Labour, now seem to think that they can do what they want to us- and also to our Nation ).

Again , if this is better together then I fail to see how things could have possibly been any worse for us had we voted YES in 2014.
