Half the domestic violence, one quarter of the children exposed and better police monitoring but only in Scotland does the BBC headline it

….violence during a debate in Parliament today. The First minister could personally (sic) finance the £2 million ‘Fund to Leave’ scheme which assists women and children to flee violence and danger in their own homes – as well as piloting GPS monitoring for suspected domestic abusers on bail awaiting court.

The above is another of those BBC Reporting Scotland team inserts in BBC Breakfast which does not appear on the BBC Scotland website. It’s an editorial decision by the news editor to report it rather than other news items. It’s an unsettling topic and well-chosen if your agenda to make your audience anxious and as we know from research, small c conservatives.

Let’s unpack the statement and offer the evidence, from previous posts here to put in a perspective that BBC Scotland will not be offering.

Women victims of domestic violence

Child victims of domestic violence

Monitoring of suspect abusers

  1. Thanks for monitoring the crap that constitute BBC Scotland’s idea of news. I hope you include them in the distribution of your responses. As for me, I use BBC TV exclusively for entertainment. BBC Radio 3 is worth having although best through BBC Sounds with delay so that you can fast forward through the “news” and the oft-repeated irrelevant trailers. BBC Radio 4 has some good stuff but again it’s best to avoid the “news” and, in common with the rest of the MSM, they seem to think Britain and England are one and the same; at best they occasionally admit without further comment that things are different in Scotland.

  2. Abused women do not get legal aid. They cannot get away. Women who co habit. The majority have to put in a claim within a year (1/3) It can cost thousands and take years, They do not have the money. So have to stay in unsafe places.
