From the Daily Record two days ago, the above scare story with Labour MP Richard Baker trying to get an attack on the SNP Government going, based on the experience of only one of his constituents (94), with an e-bike rider. Richard went to fee-paying St Bees School in Cumbria.

They claim:
This situation has led to an explosion of e-bike gangs roaming around without a care for their own safety or that of the pedestrians they crash into. Police are often unable to chase them – and the youngsters are well aware.

How big is this ‘explosion?’
No numbers are offered so I’m thinking this is just another Scottish Westminster ‘house-jock‘ trying to project crime levels in England onto Scotland in the interests of the UK Government.
There are numbers. Try these:
When you compare the number of casualties involving e-bikes.
In 2024, the UK, saw 1 390 casualties.1
With 8% of the population, you might then expect around 111 casualties in Scotland.
There were 18, one sixth of the level.2
Why might this be?
I suppose weather will be a factor but the lack of legal government-backed trials in Scotland, even regulated, with speed limits, geofencing, insurance, and age checks have not increased exposure in high-traffic urban areas here, keeping casualties down here.3

Scotland in surplus in fuel and energy, and nearer the source pays more. Energy companies want Scotland to pay less. Westminster will not let them. North/South divide. Congested South/East. Empty North. Unequal and unfair. No parity. Scotland over burdened with Westminster tax. £8Billion+ worth of energy going South. Taxed energy and fuel. Taxed at 80% by Westminster.
Iran and Ukraine putting gas prices up. Orchestrated by the US. Prices also going up in the US. Trump October Senate voting. Lose Trump a majority. A lame duck President. Senate could block the wars. Fuel and energy prices will come down.
Renewables are far cheaper. Scotland the best place for renewables in the world. In surplus.

This is a main reason why ‘now is not the time’ or ‘off the table’ etc are the Westminster responses.
Westminster is playing the old colonial game of stripping assets from ‘lesser’ nations to sustain the economy of England.
They see Scotland as a source of cheaper energy, as a source of freshwater, as a source of sea food and as a naval base for nuclear submarines.
Sterling, on the international markets, has been underpinned by North Sea oil and gas and will continue to be for renewables. It is not ‘no Scotland, no party’, but ‘no Scotland, weak pound’.

They see Scotland as their cash cow, not just cheaper energy, but free energy to take as they wish and that’s what they have been doing for a very long time, too long while people of Scotland sit in the cold in winter.
England has so scammed Scotland big time.
