    It’s an ’empathic’ report (albeit a brief one) from Al Jazeera on the ongoing impact of de-industrialisation on Middlesbourgh. What a contrast to the tone of the recent hatchet job on Glasgow by BBC Scotland!

    And Middlesborough – with its current problems/challenges – is part of the Tees Valley Combined Authority consisting of the following five unitary authorities: Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, and Stockton-on-Tees. The TVCA was founded in 2016 and has had a ‘metro mayor’ (Ben Houchen, Conservative) since 2017. So much for the transformational social and economic benefits of having a mayor!
