I suppose it was a natural transition from Anas Sarwar sitting beside the heartbroken mother and using the tragedy to then shout ‘What about Millie?’ at Nicola Sturgeon in an election debate, to the equally unpleasant figure of Jackie Baillie.

We’ve written time and again about this nine-year-old case where a bacterial infection may have been contributory to a cancer death of a child then blamed by opposition parties and their media supporters on a supposed failure by the SNP Government to prevent such infections.

Here’s where we are now:

  1. The hospital completion was signed off in 2015, by a health board stuffed with Labour councillors, no SNP members and under a Labour city administration going back 80 years.
  2. The location of the hospital 200m from a huge raw sewage treatment plant, in open-topped stirred ponds, 7 000 litres per second, was approved by the same council and health board, in 2008, months into a first SNP minority government.
  3. Researchers at Glasgow University in 2016 confirmed that wastewater cannot be 100% contained.
  4. No hospital can ever be sealed 100% against bacteria and that’s why they’re never built near sewage works.
  5. Expert witnesses at the inquiry last year were shocked to discover that the site was so near to a sewage works when 7 new hospitals in England were not.
  6. Nowhere else in Scotland, other than in Labour Glasgow, have hospitals ever been built next to sewage works, nowhere in England and as far as I can find, nowhere in the world.
  7. In the Falkirk area, they moved it from a location just over a mile away to three miles away and further upwind.
  8. In 2002, SNP deputy leader Nicola Sturgeon strongly opposed the location of the hospital in a Holyrood debate.
  9. There were better sites in Glasgow but they went to rich developers for housing. Why? Why?
  10. Glasgow Labour did the same thing with the siting of another hospital in Clydebank.

  1. Damn Jackie is next in line for ‘elevation’ as she continues Scottish (sic) Labour’s ( sic) repetition of Trump-style ‘ alternative facts’ .

    Clearly , the wannabe Baroness Baillie of Greggs is well-suited to the job of lying through her teeth as she has had ample practise during her lengthy sojourn at Holyrood .

    The Devil would need a long spoon ( and be devilishly quick ) to sup with damn Jackie !

  2. I don’t think even Prof R can quite accept the enormity of the situation. The QEUH site was chosen by NHSGGC despite considerable opposition in 2000 and signed off by Labour’s Malcolm Chisholm in 2002. Chaudhry Sarwar MP, father of his successor Anas (after the constituency boundaries changed) was the local MP. The Labour City Council finished the job. PLUS look carefully at the above photos…where lower picture states “QEUH Facilities” (labs and mortuary btw) immediately above label are the final five settlement tanks still containing raw sewage – just look to your right as you walk towards the hospital, barely five metres from you. Anything unprocessable has just been removed at the transfer station, the long corrugated roofed building, better seen in the top photograph where you can see all of the raw sewage feeder tanks on the far side of the labs/mortuary (at least ten of them). The processing of this, the worst filth South Glasgow and surrounds can excrete, doesn’t take place until across Renfrew Road, where you can see the twelve (12) massive circular reprocessing ponds being stirred and to which more bacteria and flagellates are deliberately added to help the reprocessing! But the massive quantities of raw shite are adjoining the hospital itself and all but ignored by the Scottish Hospitals Inquiry. Not to mention the household waste plant (a minor problem by comparison). And then there’s the 350,000 tonnes per year of waste already in landfill now being dug up to be incinerated in the ‘South Clyde Energy Centre’ (reviving an old planning permission decision passed by the Labour Council in July 2012). Statement 9. begs the real question. Where are the documents showing financial transactions at the Cowglen site? There is nowhere safe for us or our kids to go when I’ll. Even the Ross Hall Clinic at Braehead will be affected depending on wind direction…
