Today Police Scotland, has posted these two FoI responses:

These are the 5th and 6th such responses I’ve seen from Police Scotland, not able to provide the information. Previously, I have shared what follows below with hotels but with no response.

What is the Clery Act (USA)?

The Clery Act (officially the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, formerly the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act) is a U.S. federal law that requires colleges and universities participating in federal student financial aid programs to disclose information about crime on and near their campuses, along with their security policies. It is named after Jeanne Clery, a 19-year-old Lehigh University student who was raped and murdered in her campus residence hall in 1986. Her parents’ advocacy led to the law’s passage to increase transparency about campus crime. It was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush on November 8, 1990 (as part of the Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act, Public Law 101-542), and is codified at 20 U.S.C. § 1092(f), with implementing regulations at 34 CFR 668.46. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clery_Act

Institutions of higher education (IHEs) that participate in Title IV federal student aid programs must:

• Publish an Annual Security Report (ASR) by October 1 each year. This includes crime statistics for the preceding three years (in some contexts, institutions maintain longer records) and details on campus security policies. The report must be distributed to current students and employees and made available to prospective students and employees. congress.gov
• Report specific crime statistics for incidents occurring on campus, in on-campus student housing, on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campus, and in certain non-campus buildings/property controlled by the institution or recognized student organizations. https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/IF12597

I can see why the above would make it difficult or impossible for Police Scotland to respond but hopefully what follows would be of some use.

So, what do you think the data for Scotland might reveal? The stereotypes are still with us, but:

In every English university town you are significantly more likely to be a victim of violent crime than in any Scottish one.

I haven’t see this reported anywhere.
