Six existing examples of Chinese investment in the UK to reveal the Ardesier denial in Scotland is deliberate de-industrialisation and economic civil war

By Liz S

So the UK Labour government vetoed the wind turbine factory in the Highlands by the Chinese firm Ming Yang Smart Energy citing “national and cyber security risks”.

Yet there is already existing Chinese investment within the UK:

Heathrow Airport: The Chinese state-owned sovereign wealth fund, China Investment Corporation (CIC), holds a 10% stake.

Utilities: Hong Kong-based tycoon Li Ka-shing’s group owns UK Power Networks and a 75% stake in Northumbrian Water Group. CIC also holds minor stakes in National Grid’s gas distribution and Thames Water.

Nuclear Power: China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) has been involved in the Hinkley Point C project and planned Bradwell B site, though its active funding and future roles have scaled back or remain uncertain.

Manufacturing & Steel: Jingye Group previously acquired and operated British Steel in Scunthorpe.

London Landmarks: Chinese buyers and state-backed funds have historically purchased prominent commercial properties, including the “Walkie Talkie” building and the Leadenhall Building.

Corporate Footprint: Hundreds of mid-to-large Chinese-owned companies operate within the UK, employing tens of thousands of workers across technology, life sciences, finance, and retail sectors (such as historical stakes or ownership in brands like Clarks).

I am not even sure if the above list of Chinese involvement within the UK is an exhaustive list.

However we also heard that “The UK has approved plans for a new Chinese mega-embassy in central London, despite opponents warning it could be used as a base for spying and pose security risks“.

The Guardian reported that the “final planning permission for the Chinese mega-embassy at Royal Mint Court in London was formally approved in January 2026 by (Labour) Housing Secretary Steve Reed under the Labour government led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer”.

This new mega Chinese embassy is to be near the Tower of London,  it would be the biggest embassy of its kind in Europe , but of course it posing a potential “security risk for the UK State” is what ?

Dismissed by the Labour UK government ?

(While for Scotland the same Labour UK government will apparently not dismiss what they said was a potential “national and cyber security risk” via the Chinese involvement in the wind turbine factory in the Scottish Highlands ).

This is what happens for Scotland within the UK State , that is with us being a part of what others (the con merchants) declare is yet another supposed “Union dividend” for Scotland- as in WM always being in charge and so then dictating what we, Scotland, can and cannot do within the ‘Union’ , while they as UK WM governments seem to be always adopting a “Do as we say not as we do” approach for themselves only.

  1. Perhaps the UK plans to get turbines elsewhere and don’t want any competition? From the Telegraph’s delirious prediction that Britain will soon be Europe’s energy powerhouse:

The chief energy prize of the UK’s North Sea waters is offshore wind on the Dogger Bank – the best place in the world to plant an offshore turbine, with a capacity factor reaching 63pc for GE Vernova’s new Haliade-X turbines.

The UK will triple its offshore wind and double its onshore wind by 2030 or shortly thereafter. The Government aims to quadruple solar in 10 years. Total renewable capacity could approach 200 gigawatts by 2035. This is enormous.

    We can help of course:

Four interconnectors from Scotland to England – the Eastern Green Links – will use the most advanced high-voltage technology in the world to start sending Scottish wind power to English cities from 2029 onwards…

The global cost of lithium batteries has fallen by 93pc since 2010 to £78 per kilowatt-hour, transforming the economics of storing that renewable power.

Britain is seizing on this to install a network of state-of-the-art batteries – including “grid-forming” variants with spinning kinetic inertia to avoid a Spain-style blackout – as well as cryogenic compressed air and pumped hydro from Scottish lochs.

Britain will soon be Europe’s energy powerhouse

  2. I looked Up GE Vernova out of curiosity. Its a spin off of General Electric making gas and wind turbines and grid connectors. Its share price is doing well because the hyperscale data centres are creating a soaring demand for electricity. Dogger Bank will do well.

It’s American so will not appreciate Chinese competition. That is possibly the source of the unspecified “insecurity”. Remember when America warned the UK not to allow Huwawei to provide 5G networks.

  3. So today, surprise surprise (not), the front pages of the decidedly non Scottish editions of The Daily Mail & The Daily Express state this:

The Daily mail – “Naïve SNP dismiss China warnings”.

The Daily Express – “SNP support for Chinese turbine plant poses profound security risk“.

I prefer to “dismiss” anything that the Daily Mail front pages write about either the SNP or Scotland.

Also it is clear that The Daily Express “poses a profound risk” to truth and honesty when writing about politics in Scotland , that is due to their (obvious) “support” for ‘any party but the SNP in Scotland due to their (most obvious) support for the sustaining of the UK State against their (obvious) opposition to Scottish independence.

The Daily Express , like The Daily Mail, are part of what is referred to as the gutter press.

If you really want to “read all about it” then it would be best to avoid both of these rags, as with both of them all you will read is a succession of right wing propaganda and misleading disinformation (indeed that’s their speciality).

Not that the so called media regulator, IPSO, cares.

In 2024 The Byline Times wrote this:

“The Independent Press Standards Organisation, or IPSO, the so-called ‘press self-regulator’ operated by the big UK newspaper companies for their own benefit, is suffering a double crisis”.

“On the one hand, it appears to be paralysed in the face of its biggest-ever case, involving the Sun and Jeremy Clarkson’s notorious column about Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. And on the other, one of IPSO’s smallest member publications, the Jewish Chronicle, is making a mockery of its authority and of its claim to uphold journalistic standards”.

“Such challenges were inevitable given the basic dishonesties that have underpinned IPSO since it was established in defiance of the Leveson Inquiry recommendations nine years ago. A regulator designed not to regulate, as IPSO is, is bound to come a cropper”.

Nor does Labour care either as under Keir Starmer’s Labour UK government we read that Labour confirmed that they had “no plans to revive the second part of the Leveson Inquiry”.

However in 2016 the BBC had a headline that stated:

“Leveson Inquiry: Labour demands part two goes ahead

The then Shadow home secretary Andy Burnham said “answers were still required over the “unhealthy closeness” between police and journalists in the past”.

“The second stage of the Leveson Inquiry is crucial,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. Adding that “It needs to set out a much better relationship between the police and the press… to protect victims going forward to give them the justice they deserve.”

Levinson part two: “The extent of unlawful or improper conduct within News International , other media organisations or other organisations. It will also consider the extent to which any relevant police force investigated allegations relating to News International, and whether the police received corrupt payments or were otherwise complicit in misconduct.” – (the previous Tory UK government scrapped the second part of the Leveson Inquiry in 2018).

So now that Burnham is the new PM and new leader of the Labour party does he still feel the same way that he did in 2016 about the “second stage of the Leveson Inquiry” being “crucial” ?

Well I suspect that , like Starmer, Burnham’s need for ongoing ‘positive press’ stories about himself and his Labour UK government are far more ‘pressing’ than him reviving his supposed former beliefs in 2016, that is on the second stage of the Levinson inquiry being implemented.

The UK State , and the various forms of the establishment within it, are all just part of a great big corrupt UK State racket.

  4. The greatest risk to our security is Westminster and its client media. Witness the devastation of Scotland’s industrial base and removal of strategic industries such as coal, steel, aluminium and refining of essential minerals, plus dumping toxic nuclear plant and submarine bases which paint a target on our large urban population, who are concentrated there anyway as a result of clearance and unemployment.

Naivety is believing the lies and mendacity of the yellow press.

    1. “Naivety is believing the lies and mendacity of the yellow press”.

      Unfortunately some do.

Just as they also believe the likes of Farage & Rupert Lowe.

Though I think I would be hard pushed to state , with any credibility, that anyone of sound mind ever actually trusted and so then “believed (all of) the lies and mendacity” via Anas Sarwar Ha Ha.

Now that he, Sarwar, is an unelected UK Trade Minister of (getting things into a right old State ) within the UK government and also an unelected Peer in the HOL’s, then he will be able to continue deploying his lies and mendacious nature within his new role(s) to try to deceive all of those “naïve” people elsewhere within the UK State, just as he tried to deceive us in Scotland when he was the Labour branch office manager in Scotland.

He might even have new future columns in some of the “yellow press”.

Baron Brass Neck, another one from the ranks of Labour. (rank being so very appropriate for them and him).
