97% of Scotland’s aviation fuel demand was met by Grangemouth so closing it was deliberately harmful

From Google AI:

Before ending crude oil processing in April 2025, the Grangemouth Refinery supplied about 65% of all petrol, diesel, and jet fuel used in Scotland. For aviation fuel specifically, it accounted for up to 97% of Scotland’s supply, fueling major airports like Edinburgh and Glasgow. [12345]

Note - the source numbers will cleverly, for TuS, take you right out of here, so maybe click on them after you've read the whole thing?

Supply Breakdown

  • Overall Refined Products: Roughly 65% of Scotland’s total petroleum consumption.
  • Jet Fuel / Aviation Kerosene: Approximately 97% of Scotland’s aviation fuel demand.
  • Diesel & Petrol: A major share of ground transport fuels, contributing heavily to the regional supply across the Central Belt and wider Scotland alongside overall refinery output shares of about 15% to 24% of specific distillate metrics

Because of the war in the Middle east, in which Westminster participates through Akrotiri in Cyprus (home of bambi bucket bearing Chinooks which we can’t have), the price of diesel and jet fuel is soaring on the world market. So instead of using our own from Grangemouth, refining oil from the North Sea, we have to import it at vastly inflated prices.

Better Together?

    1. It’s another case of Labour English government sanctioning Scotland..that’s what the US does to other countries mainly Latin American countries, then they say they are too poor and need regime change to save the people from having no energy or food etc, classic tactics.

  1. ArtyHetty, exactly what I was thinking.
Westminster PMs are our Donald Trump. They attack us verbally and financially without suffering any direct consequences.
They’d think twice if we were prepared to give them thirty years of “troubles”.
Basically they’ve removed or stolen most of our industry and all of our oil. They’ve closed, steel producers, ship builders and continue to steal our green energy. All whilst treating us like an errant child.
Without Grangemouth it’s difficult to see how transportation can move around, or in and out of Scotland should our southern neighbours do as Trump has done to Cuba.
When will ALL Scots wake up.
    Westminster is not our friend!

WE NEED TO LEAVE no matter the consequences!
