The Herald today, gleefully has:
The number of Scottish pupils missing more than half of the school year has almost doubled in five years. Around 400 classrooms could be filled by the 12,402 pupils who were absent at least 50% of the 2025-26 school year, with almost 6,000 more children now severely absent compared to five years ago, analysis by The Herald can reveal.
12 402 eh? So if things were the same pro rata, per heid, with 10 times the population etc in England, they’d have 124 020.
The 2025/2026 data for England has not been published yet but for 2024/2025, it was 176 3611, 41% higher than Scotland’s 2025/2026 figure and 82%, twice Scotland’s 2024/2025.
It’s like ‘shooting fish in a barrel‘ some times with the Herald.

whilst shooting fish in a barrel can be fun, I’d be happier getting this information directly to the Herald’s all too credulous readership.
I wish I knew how.

One in twenty people are on the spectrum. ADHD or autistic etc. They can get anxious and upset at school, unless additional help is given. School can be noisy and over whelming. Sometimes they are better going less. Depending on the subjects. They can be extremely, bright and of smart ability. They just need a bit more support and not be expected to follow a rigid timetable.
In the jobs market they can be better working part/time. Do not to be overwhelmed. Or have meltdowns.
