A Falkirk anti-immigration protest group has announced it will disband because of the attendance of neo-Nazis at demonstrations. Campaign group Save Our Future and Our Kids Future organised protests outside the Cladhan Hotel, which houses asylum seekers, consistently over the last year.

The demonstrations have attracted far-right groups, including Patriotic Alternative (PA) and the Homeland Party. PA is a white nationalist group founded by former BNP youth leader Mark Collett. In a documentary, released by Channel 4 in 2002, Collett was caught on camera referring to Africans and homosexuals who died due to HIV-AIDS as “AIDS monkeys”.

Why should we not be surprised?

BBC Scotland, in September 2026, had:

A teenager who stabbed a 13-year-old boy in a racially aggravated attack has been jailed for more than seven years. Junior Cameron, now aged 18, shouted a racist remark at the boy during the attack in Glasgow’s Queen’s Park on 8 March 2024. The child was punched, kicked and stabbed during the incident and was left needing 12 stitches. He has since suffered from post traumatic stress disorder.

A taxpayer-funded public service broadcaster with a royal charter requiring it to inform and to educate, lets us down here once more by offering no answers to the questions any professional news media would provide:

1. Are racially aggravated attacks common and are they becoming more or less so?
2. Are attacks by and upon young people and children common and are they becoming more or less so?

The answers are easily found, especially so by an agency with around 800 staff in their Pacific Quay HQ.

Racially aggravated crime is in steady decline since 2010 and with an unrepresentative during the pandemic to misleadingly suggest and increase thereafter which is merely a return to the long-term trend.

There are no data for racially aggravated serious physical violence attacks, but:

Over the past two decades, Scotland has seen a significant reduction in overall violent crime, including among young people. The Scottish Crime and Justice Survey (SCJS) estimates a 58% reduction in violent incidents from 2008/09 to 2021/22, with the proportion of adults experiencing violent crime dropping from 4.1% to 1.7% over the same period. Studies like the Edinburgh Study of Youth Transitions and Crime (ESYTC) and Growing Up in Scotland (GUS) show a marked decline in self-reported offending among adolescents, with violent offending (e.g., physical violence) decreasing from around 50% in the ESYTC cohort (born 1986/87) to less than 20% in the GUS cohort (born 2004/05). Homicide rates have halved since 2008/09, and serious assaults and attempted murders recorded by police fell by 47% from 2008/09 to 2023/24. This progress is largely attributed to Scotland’s public health approach to violence prevention, led by initiatives like the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit (SVRU) and programs such as No Knives, Better Lives.
