From Energy Statistics for Scotland – Q3 2024, published today:
Scotland is a net exporter of electricity. In 2023, the equivalent of 33.8% of electricity generated in Scotland was exported: 13.9 TWh to England and Wales, and 2.0 TWh to Northern Ireland.
Scotland has seen a steady rise in the proportion of electricity generated from low-carbon sources from 49.4% in 2004 to 89.6% in 2023.1
According to EDF, 1 KWh is currently worth around 24p2.
One TWh is 1 000 000 000 KWh
So 1 TWh is worth around 1 000 000 000 times 24p or £240m.
13.9 TWh is thus worth around 3.3bn.
and:
Total gas consumption in Scotland in 2023 has declined from 43.6 TWh in 2022 to 42.7 TWh 2023. This is now at 70% of 2005 consumption (60.9 TWh).
Final electricity consumption in Scotland also continues to fall, with 21.8 TWh consumed in 2023. Electricity consumption in Scotland is now 74% of 2005 consumption (29.5 TWh).3
Scotland thus only uses around two thirds of the electricity it generates and, as an independent nation, could export the surplus and make a fortune in an increasingly needy European market.

Scotland in surplus in fuel and energy, and nearer the source pays more. The energy companies want to charge Scotland less. Westminster does not agree.
Independent Scotland would have control of resources and revenues. Scotland would be more prosperous, equal and fair. Westminster decides how 40% of Scottish revenues are spend. Illegal wars, financial fraud and tax evasion.

The Network are building a New Grid Substation at Torness. The new HVDC cables are to run from Torness. Torness has the same cracking problem as Hunterston. Torness has it’s licence extended for an extra 2 years. You can fill in where you think the new nuclear power station will be built in Scotland.

One thing we know for sure is there would not be any network upgrading done in Scotland if England did not depend on our resources.

Last Sunday this was the headlines on The Sunday Post’s front page.
“Scots flooding across border to snap up cut price alcohols”
Where apparently alcohol was being bought in “bulk” by Scots when in England.
Apparently this was during trips to England, so people are not specifically going to England just to buy alcohol in bulk then ?
As in the same alcohol that if bought in bulk and then consumed excessively it then has a detrimental impact on your health as it can be deadly.
According to the Sunday Post “soaring alcohol prices in Scotland” are then “driving shoppers online and over the border into England in search of bargains”.
But wait what is happening in England with alcohol consumption ?
Well today it was reported on the BBC website in their UK & Health sections (but not their UK Politics page) that:
“There has been “a catastrophic rise” in deaths caused solely by alcohol in England over the past four years, government figures suggest”.
“More than 8,200 people died because of alcohol in 2023 – a 42% rise on 2019 – with the North East having the highest rates”.
“The Alcohol Health Alliance UK says alcohol consumption could be reduced if a minimum price for each unit was introduced, as in Scotland“.
Wait what ?
“Alcohol consumption could be reduced if a minimum price for each unit was introduced, as in Scotland”.
Of course the BBC being the BBC added into this article that “During the pandemic, deaths caused by alcohol rose sharply across the UK” yet this specific article was only supposed to be in relation to England only.
You know I’m beginning to think that it’s certain parts of the media in Scotland that are the real hazard for public health in Scotland and not the Scottish government , who they, certain media, always blame.
The Sunday Post communicating to it’s Scottish readers where they should go to get “cheaper alcohol” in bulk and thus encourage more alcohol use , to then instigate a similar “catastrophic rise” in alcohol deaths to exist within Scotland as exists within England , where it is now reported that there is a “catastrophic rise in deaths caused solely by alcohol in England”.
(Though all of the media in Scotland have tried their best to promote this ridiculous story in the past, as in that many Scots were travelling to England to buy ‘cheap alcohol’ due to minimum pricing by the Scottish government ).
I know the UK is very very bad for Scotland, but there’s no need for their media to try to drive us (as in encourage and incite us), in Scotland, to drink (excessively) ?
Or is there ?

An important fact which can be inferred from the data on energy production is that renewable energy sources can supply all of Scotland’s energy needs.
I know that it is not as straightforwardly inferential because some users of energy have technology that cannot be quickly replaced to operate from renewable sources, but it does mean that Scotland can be considered to be ‘carbon neutral’.

No ring of steel is one such organisation.
