Scotland – An impressive but invisible in the media industrial action backwater

Look at that middle column and admire the success of the Scottish Government in handling potentially live-threatening labour disputes in the health sector. Many lives saved.

You’d think BBC Scotland researchers and Conor Matchett at the Scotsman, would have this on their favourites list. Doesn’t look like it does it?

    1. Actually this is because The Scottish Government know how to get round a table and talk to Unions to discuss a deal…………it is not illegal to threaten industrial action to get a better wages, conditions and rights for the workers

, what should be illegal is when governments refuse to even acknowledge that right to strike……..simple.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    “Scottish wages highest in UK

The data shows that in Scotland, in April 2023, median gross weekly pay was £586. On this measure, Scottish wages were the highest of the four UK nations.”

Until the Smith Commission agreement to give to give the Scottish Government half of the revenues from VAT is assigned or (following Brexit) is devolved, its main source of revenue is through income tax. Those higher pay awards to the public sector will mean more spending (helping businesses) and more revenues (helping public spending).
