Small ferries replacement building ‘on track’ though you’d be forgiven for thinking it wasn’t if you didn’t read the sneaky BBC Scotland headline carefully

BBC Scotland have headlined this story:

CalMac small ferries replacement spending delay

The deeply cynical like me thought ‘What’s that ‘spending‘ doing in there?’

Sneaky, sneaky – they want, of course, to keep the delay fiasco narrative going so they kept the delay notion even though they knew it wasn’t true and slipped the spending qualification in as a defence for any criticism.

What did the Finance Secretary actually say?

She said the small vessels plans had been “reprofiled, allowing time to fully consider the business case work, vessels design criteria, and help ensure alignment of the related shore power and port improvement works”.

Asked on BBC Scotland’s the Sunday Show if that meant a delay, she said: “CMAL have said the plans remain on track – the issue here is the profiling of the resources

“So instead of the resources being spent in 23/24 they will now be spent in 24/25 – so there’s no change to the programme. The programme remains on track.”

Like some cheeky wee bairns I taught, when questioned about their excuses, they’ll say in playground tones: ‘I didn’t blame Jamie. I just said I thought over-heard Mary blame him!’

    1. BBC Scotland financed by Englands westminster to issue propaganda doing down anything Scottish it’s what England has always done England cannot be trusted many countries around the world know this , the EU countries found this out during brexit negotiations it’s the English way lies and deceit

      1. In reality it is even worse than that in so far as the financing is from the people of Scotland who pay their licence fee. Editorial content regulated by the governor general”s office.

  3. And still up to their old Tardis time-shiting tricks I noted.

Their “Public sector workforce will have to shrink – Shona Robison” article desperately needed promotion having generated zero traction, as had a host of others which now squat on the BBC/Politics web-page, alongside this particular propaganda piece and Michael Matheson episode 1001…

Thus grew a Comments section, earliest comment 11.17, of the ‘nicola ate my hamster’ variety.

It’s beyond “I just said I thought over-heard Mary blame him!” childishness, Pacific Quay’s incontinent pigeons have come home to defecate…

  4. I couldn’t agree more that the BBC are sleekit, but the ferries fiasco will continue to be a rod to beat the SNP with until someone makes real changes at CMAL and CalMac.

Haven’t the government just proposed that their contracts are extended? Failure being rewarded is lunacy.

The services are pretty woeful and we are failing our island communities.

We have to be able to criticise our own when they get things wrong and, sadly, they’ve failed on this for years.

If these are the ferries being built in Turkey, well that’s a failure in itself for a country so proud of its maritime industries.

We must do better, or the BBC will just keep accepting the sticks we give them to beat us with.

I travel all over Scotland as part of my job and on a weekly basis use Calmac three times a week……have done for a decade and have never had a problem….Calmac is a wonderful service that should be praised not criticised…..do not feed into this Unionist dross starvar dame bull nonsense….keep up the good work Calmac and

    long may it continue.

    1. The fact that there’s no island representation on the board of either organisation should tell you everything. I am not buying into a Unionist agenda and an accusation of such is an admittance that an SNP ScotGov could do anything and you’ll support it. We have to do better and the way to start that process is to admit how rubbish it’s been and start the processes needed to make it better.

      1. Can you smell sh*t*? I don’t agree with everything SNP does in-fact they get a helluva lot wrong but the Calmac service is NOT rubbish….read TUS other articles on ferries….not completely perfect but 95% to 98% on time sailings IS pretty remarkable even when factoring in Scottish weather.
