Scotland has 22% more police officers proportionally than Labour Wales and nearly 20% more than England to drive down crime

According to the Police Promotion Blog, in 2023, Scotland has 16 615 police officers.

All things being equal, with 10 times the population, England should have 166 150 but has only 139 425 so Scotland has 26 725, 19.2% more pro rata.

With 1.7 times the population of Wales, Scotland should have 13 608 officers but has 16 615, 3 007 or 22.1% more.

Might this help to explain these crime level differences?

  1. Probably why articles such as “Police Scotland warns of funding threat to 3000 jobs” appear on HMS James Cook, as the Tories in Westminster contrive to force SG into making undesired budget decisions… https://archive.ph/6RgK6

I can’t be the only one who sees the “England and Wales” reference and automatically thinks ‘England’s figures must be really bad then’ – Much as the token Welsh beach seeks to hide England’s appalling pollution problem without clarifying where the Welsh pollution is coming from (England)…

    1. Herald today’s front page has a story claiming that police may not be able to attend all call outs unless they get more money. Seems police stories are this week’s focus for MSM

      1. BBC Scotland, while still publishing the story about the ‘riot’ in Auchinleck, is still not providing any detail about the reasons for the disorder. It has updated the piece to include a vox pop from someone who claims he had to jump out of a window after a house was set on fire and a statement by the Police Federation that Police Scotland numbers are so poor that officers cannot attend crimes. So this story has become a campaign piece for police pay and conditions and to further spread the myth that Scotland is a lawless place where innocent people have to run for their lives.

        1. Reporting Scotland took that route in their report on the Auchinleck issue. The managed to mention the closure of the mines 30 odd years ago too. Then they moved seamlessly into police funding. Anything but the full facts.
