BBC Scotland politicise November 5 attacks on police

PA Media

BBC Scotland today, at least using images actually from the trouble in Edinburgh last night as opposed to ones from the Troubles in Northern Ireland, have:

Scottish Conservative justice spokesman Russell Findlay said: “Such attacks on police officers are cowardly, reckless and dangerous. Police Scotland need sufficient resources to tackle these thugs.”

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-67328978

Findlay also pops up with the same quote in the Independent, the Herald, the Mirror, the Express, the Shropshire Star and the Bracknell News.

In April 2021, BBC Northern Ireland had Belfast: Police attacked during another night of violence and no attempts to blame either the UK or devolved administrations for lack of policing resources.

In May 2021, BBC Wales had Shocking footage as Swansea ‘yobs’ set cars on fire in Mayhill but no opposition accusations of staffing problems.

Regardless of the public service issue, only BBC Scotland does this.

While condemning wholeheartedly these attacks, I’d be interested to know if they’re becoming more or less common.

For 2022:

Assaults on police officers and staff are down for the first time since 2015 but the number still remains unacceptably high and above the five year average, according to the latest figures.

https://www.scotland.police.uk/what-s-happening/news/2022/june/assaults-on-police-officers-and-staff-remain-above-five-year-average/

Based on earlier data, in 2019 we reported: Assaults on Police Officers in Scotland FALL to half that of England & Wales: https://talkingupscotlandtwo.com/2019/10/11/assaults-on-police-officers-in-scotland-fall-to-half-that-of-england-wales/

  1. It does get VERY wearing. The unionists use everything possible as a tool to beat the SG with. A perfect example of that is the Gaza situation with the FM’s relatives. First of all the gist was ‘they were warned by the UK government not to travel to Gaza’ but they went anyway. Then he was accused of bribery to free them – using taxpayers money to buy their freedom . BTW Jane Lax was so
appalled by this she wrote to some newspaper to suggest the money should go to Brechin instead. And now he’s being ridiculed for asking for privacy after using the press for the release of his relatives. At least it’s given the SNHS a break. And now, of course, there’s what’s app messages to get their teeth into. I’m sorry, rant over.

  2. Slightly O/T, but the B/B/C said this morning that the U.K Government had issued a Section 21 Order to the Scottish Government, authorising them to release Whats App messages to the Covid Enquiry.
No mention of the fact that the Scottish Government were the ones who requested this order, in order to comply with data regulations.

  3. ” A statement said officers were pursuing a number of individuals who they believe were providing youths with fireworks and petrol bombs to target police”

Those two lines should have been the basis of the headline and indeed the article, because it indicates that this was a planned event organised by individuals supplying the petrol bombs for the sole purpose of attacking the poice. This should have been reported for what it was, a terrorist attack.

    1. OTT!!! Tell me in what way is a bunch of Ned’s recklessly and obviously against the law firing fireworks at Scottish Police egged on by another bunch of adult Ned’s
deemed as an act of terrorism?
Police Scotland will of had surveillance equipment at the scene, so round them up,
charge them get them in court and if guilty sentence them with endangerment to
      life!!!
      Not terrorism!!!
I am in no way defending this abhorrent behaviour and never want to see this on
      Scotlands streets, but not terrorism!!!

And for your information I HAVE READ THE ARTICLE!!!
I am in no way condoning this dangerous and reckless act but do
not over inflate it to a terrorist act.
The mass unionist media and the Tories along with their very very close partners new new Labour, bandy these words around to describe mindless
nonsensical acts of violence and vandalism THIS WAS NOT A TERRORIST ACT!!! Maybe tell your friends at the bbc or whatever your “news” outlet
of choice is that at the moment at least we do not have “terrorists” lurking
around every street corner in Scotland, maybe a lot of “wee Ned’s” unfortunately!!!
          You exasperate me!!!

          1. Throwing petrol bombs at the police in NI is tried under anti terrorism laws, they also apply here. We have no idea at this point who organised and distributed petrol bombs on this occasion, but we have to consider that this may have been a state sponsored event to embarrass Scotland and undermine our police force. Until and unless the individuals who organised this, have doubts over this, are apprehended I suggest you keep your mind open and your brain engaged.

You seem like a troll or a bot, I see the unionist Labourite media have all but dropped your “terrorist” story, their job is done, NI laws
don’t apply in Scotland yes Scotland a different country.
              Engage YOUR brain.
It would appear that you are indeed anti Scotland or at very least
happy to engage in unionist deep fake and quite frankly LIES.
Leave me alone , you come across as a bitter unionist tory\labour
scumbot troll….no more, end of, nada.
Maybe you are dame Jakie……who knows….who cares.

              1. The law of Northern Ireland is the legal system of statute and common law operating in Northern Ireland since the partition of Ireland established Northern Ireland as a distinct jurisdiction in 1921. Prior to 1921, Northern Ireland was part of the same legal system as the rest of Ireland.

For the purposes of private international law, the United Kingdom is divided into three distinct legal jurisdictions: England and Wales; Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Northern Ireland is a common law jurisdiction. Although its common law is similar to that in England and Wales, and partially derives from the same sources, there are some important differences in law and procedure. Northern Irish law has its roots in Irish common law prior to the partition of Ireland in 1921 and the Acts of Union in 1801. Following the formation of the Irish Free State (which later became the Republic of Ireland), Northern Ireland became its own devolved legal jurisdiction within the United Kingdom.

              2. Anti terrorism laws apply to all parts of the UK, made in England and foisted on the rest of us.
Golfnut, that’s me by the way, is a long term poster, way before 2014 and any regular on here would know and recognise that. I take it then I’ve hit a nerve somewhere, Scotland Office? Your style is a bit gushy, obviously Google yours friend, which is a bit of mistake if your looking for info on the unions and the law.

No nerve by your type has been hit. You believe union media a scaremonger. NO TERRORISM HAS BEEN COMMITTED IN NIDDRIE which is a small town in Scotland
Just in case you didn’t know where it is.
Maybe you are part conspiracist’s conspiracy I believe in truth something your type don’t enjoy more lies about Scotland.
I am merely a supporter for Scottish Independence, for my entire adult life and have watched with joy the movement get bigger and bigger, when the unionist lies have been negated then we can move forward to our goal.
This is not the forum for negatives…so if you truly are
for Scottish Independence then keep the faith.

If your aim is to stop my enjoyment of TUS you
                      have failed.

  4. No matter how WEARING it gets, as kelticgirl comments, we all have to appreciate that no matter how often John reports these differences propagandised by BBC Scotland, a significant proportion of the population still treat news reports from them as representing the truth. Then they gossip about it and inevitably repeat these falsehoods

  5. Not just Rep Scot I’m afraid the main UK BBC channel has shown the ‘disturbance’ news caption continously throughout the day alongside other occasional news items. Just a co-incidence I suppose but with thousands of tourists likely to descend on Edinburgh during the festive markets and hogmany the BBC would never wish to discourage our English friends visiting Scotland’s capital would they?? Come on that would be very underhand.
