Thanks to AR for the tip.
From BBC Scotland yesterday:
One of Scotland’s most recognisable drinks brands is among hundreds which have not signed up to a controversial new bottle recycling scheme.
Dougal Sharp, the founder of Innis and Gunn, questioned the legality of the scheme and raised concerns about its costs to businesses and consumers.

From Wikipedia:
Innis & Gunn has contract brewed in Glasgow at Tennent’s Wellpark Brewery since 2014 and has been exported to over 35 countries. It is the No.1 “craft” lager in Scotland, the No.1 imported “craft” beer in Canada and the No.3 in Sweden.

Sweden has a deposit return scheme. How many of the others do? Belgium does…..
There’s your homework, readers. Answers below under the heading Why Innis & Gunn owner Dougal Sharp is either a hypocrite or a Tory or both.
Monies will be saved picking up cans and bottles left lying around as litter. They can already be recycled. Firms already have to pay for litter collections.
The Hydro has a recycling scheme. £ deposit on a plastic drinking vessel. People get the money back returning them. Washed at high temperature and recycled.

And some enterprising children earned money on the side at the Hydro by collecting the empties and taking them back to get the refund paid into their granny’s account.

People will stop buying Innis & Gunn now.
If you need to suck up to the Conservative Party to run your business you risk losing customers.
Time will tell.
The public want recycling they are tired of business failing their responsibilities and damaging our earth.

Australia has a successful scheme – or, to be more precise, it has eight such schemes, one for each State/Territory with each scheme organised separately by the State/Territory governments. South Australia showed the way by establishing theirs in 1977 – but it wasn’t until 2012 that the rest started to follow.
It’s funny how the UK can’t (or won’t) manage the same, with only half the number of ‘States’.

It strangely reminded me of the Father Ted sketch, ” very far away… small cows Dougal…” – What is is it about Dougals not being quite so Sharp on the BBC since the Magic Roundabout ceased airing ?
As to HMS James Cook’s “One of Scotland’s most recognisable drinks brands” 🤣… “the news where you are” springs to mind…
