UK Gov rejects fire safety measures to save lives in English schools which are already in place in Scotland

This post is almost entirely due to the work of new TuS Health and Safety Correspondent (SFA Remuneration Rules), Robert Martin. I’ve just quickly assembled the bits for a quick post.

From insurance giants, Zurich, today this gnomish report:

  1. From my experience of sprinkler system now more than 20 years ago I have a vague memory that F.M. Global would not insure a building unless it had a sprinkler system. I also recall reading a safety article around the year 2000 or 2001 that stated that not one life was lost in the 20th century in a building that had a sprinkler system.

  2. Ah, but ….. this Government is about ‘slashing red tape’, including things like building regulations ….. but only for the schools the plebs attend. Those for which people pay fees will, of course, have such safety features, but that is as a result of ‘market forces’ because unless the school owners responded, the ‘customers’ would choose to go elsewhere. However, as ‘charities’ these private schools can, of course, gets rates relief and other abatements. They can also apply to various quangos like the Sports Council which are set up to siphon public funds to the private sector.

Does it really matter if some pleb schools go on fire. ‘These people’ ‘breed like rabbits’, don’t they? as they say when sitting in the club drinking their gin and T.
