Today, from SNP Media, for immediate release:
SCOTLAND OUTPERFORMS UK IN BUILDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING
113,000 HOUSES BUILT SINCE 2007
Scotland continues the trend of outperforming the rest of the UK in delivering affordable housing.
In the last financial year 9,757 homes have been built for social rent, mid-market rent, and affordable ownership.
Scotland continues to outperform the rest of the UK by building 13.9 homes per 10,000 population, compared with 8.0 in Wales, 9.7 in England and 13.0 per 10,000 in Northern Ireland.
So, 43% more than England and 73.75% more than Wales.
This news is, of course, getting no coverage at all.
The last time they had anything on housing, in May 2022, BBC Scotland offered Number of new homes built dropped by a third in Scotland, a report in which they try to attach responsibility for lack of building by private companies, to the Scottish Government:
The number of new homes in Scotland fell by a third in one year, to the lowest total for eight years.
There were a total of 15,360 homes either built, refurbished or converted in 2020-21 – down by 33% from 23,047 in 2019-20.
A Scottish government report said the fall was down to the impact of Covid restrictions on construction.

In December 2022, the Guardian did have England’s affordable housing scheme falls 32,000 homes short of target:
Great stuff , you find the information that British nationalists in Scotland try to hide from us because they are paid by the Westminster supporting cabal and it’s their mission to to do Scotland down , fantastic work you do informing the Scottish public of the reality.
Housing in U.K. is in dreadfully poor condition especially for those people on low incomes, new Social housing is a massive help well done Scottish government well done all except Labour Conservative and Lib Dem who fight against any improved living conditions for people in Scotland

Well what else would you expect from HMS James Cook other than “failed to meet targets for…” {insert here}….
I’m not in the slightest diminishing SG’s achievement of “In the last financial year 9,757 homes have been built for social rent, mid-market rent, and affordable ownership”, by making the point it’s a good start but there is so much more which needs done.
The greatest tragedy of modern house-building is available land for which planning permission is likely immediately gets bought up as “options” and stashed into a land bank by developers, and the vast private estates which dominate Scotland are playing much the same game, keeping land in short supply because the actual cost of a house is peanuts compared to the value of the land.
