Massive drop in operations cancellations as only just over 2% are cancelled due to lack of resources

From Public Health Scotland today, we see that only 2.2% or 506 out of 22 688 cases, of all planned operations were cancelled due to a lack of staff or facilities. This is a dramatic fall from 3.8% or 708 cases.

This type of cancellation is the only kind that can be considered a measure of performance and is a phenomenally low figure for any institution of this sizer and complexity.

    1. My wife was due to attend the Lipid Clinic this morning. About 20 minutes before we were about to leave for the hospital, we were phoned and informed that the appointment had to be cancelled because the consultant had tested positive for Covid19. A new appointment will be arranged asap.

I am sure BBC Scotland would present this as ‘another failure’ -“Distraught 72 year old who had waited 3 weeks for her appointment, said, tearfully, she is ‘devastated'” In fact, she was quite pleased because the rain was teeming down and the hospital is just across the park and we would have walked.
