Shameless Advertising: Talking-up the Proclaimers

I got an email on holiday. Reading it too quickly, I thought it said new dentures were being delivered. Whit!!??

Then I read on to see that it was the new Proclaimers album which I’d pre-ordered.

Anyhoo it’s fab and all true TuS followers are ordered to buy it.

Here’s the title track:

Here are words:

“Dentures Out”

Britain’s old and rather thin
I saw her with her dentures out, she put them in
Then mumbled something indistinct which might have been
“Nostalgia I love you”

Britain’s wise after the fact
You have to give the old lady
Time to react
And now that she has learned
That facts aren’t really facts
Nostalgia, she loves you!

See the ranks of non-achievers
Wear the look of true believers
Freedoms come and freedoms vanish
Ask the Poles and watch the Spanish

Britain can seem slightly smug
She likes to drink her beverage from her own mug
With on its side a picture of a tiny dug
Nostalgia, we love you

Blame the Jocks and blame the Paddys
Blame the scourge of absent daddies
Proof there is if proof were needed
That the right-wing press succeeded

Britain’s old and rather thin
I saw her with her dentures out, she put them in
And mumbled something indistinct which might have been
“Nostalgia I love you”

Who says you can’t have tuneful and serious politics.

I’ve been getting into the other songs while driving or doing the dishes. Several memorable ditties, I’d say. It’s good to know their song-writing didn’t peak earlier.

Buy it or if you can’t afford it get someone else to buy it and borrow it.
